I have had my 650s spider for several months and we finally are having good enough weather for me to get the car out for a really good drive with properly warmed up tires.

I absolutely love this car! It drives unlike anything else I've owned or driven and I just can't understand why the resale values aren't stronger on these cars.

I know the age old argument is the reliability but my friend's new to him 458 Spider has been in the shop for 8 weeks for an issue even Ferrari can't figure out - so it's not as though the others in this arena are that much better.

I'd love to hear thoughts but more than anything I'm just so happy I bought this car and blown away at how good it really is!

I get it and have heard all the arguments for lower values. But the driving experience is spectacular. I've owned Porsches, Ferraris, an R8 V10 manual, etc. This car just feels so different and truly feels special to drive.
Well a lot of mclaren used value was brought down by ppl constantly posting reliability issues, in some instances mclaren handling things in a bad way and also the stupid fire issues (which others had too) …
In ride quality and value for the driver I would say that a 720s/765LT is the way better deal than a Pista/SF90 … but than of course there are a lot of people with a kind of Ferrari or Lambo fetish who don’t consider other cars … especially for Ferrari that seems to give them a lot of bonus points for resale value …

It seems to be a fact that relatively many supercar drivers are not able to grasp the real qualities of such a supercar. Many people tell the stories that are lied to them by the respective marketing or follow the hair-raising stories of certain pseudo-mainstream channels. Then, for many, a little nostalgia and supposed image plays a role (Ferrari the "Super-Brand" with its stunning history, Porsche the German underdog which beats everything with "pure perfection" and the stubborn Italian which annoyed the competition with tractors). Then there are the people who simply claim that what they own is the best of the best. These are the people who think that their being is the center of the universe. Their judgment is thus also to be questioned.

I always say: a McLaren is a McLaren. Anyone who recognizes the unique characteristics of a McLaren also recognizes how small the differences are within the McLaren family. And anyone who recognizes the unique characteristics of a McLaren also recognizes how huge the differences are to the competitor products. Whether they like it or not. Together with the 12C, this platform still sets the origin for the superior McLaren Automotive DNA.

My personal opinion: Your 650S still represents one of the best super sports cars by far, which is very difficult to beat in its core characteristics. I'm not biased at all, of course. ;)

go on a Lamborghini forum and tout the virtues of a great driving car(Mclaren) and the thread will deteriorate into the sound of the v10 is superior(does dot make a car faster or handle better) and how the bullet proof engine of the Lamborghini is trouble free.
Let's not forget that Mclaren is a young car company that has risen very fast and succeeds in competing very well against the larger more established companies.
even though technologies were a lot different when Ferrari and Lamborghini started, the first 40 years produced (great) hand built cars with many variances in the building process. If it weren't for the influence of Audi with Lamborghini, who knows if the cars produced after would be as "bulletproof".

certainly not ... also one does forget easily that both Italian brands were considered extremely unreliable and also having lots of build quality issues ... the restored cars today are way better than when they left factory in the 1970is to 1990is

I have a '70s Ferrari and have owned many '80s and '90s Lamborghinis(currently an '80s Lamborghini) and I love the "charm" of the period builds.

I can say, those that own a Mclaren are more open to other makers. generally, those that only own Ferraris or Lamborghinis are less open to a balanced discussion on performance of other cars.

oh I know quiet some ppl here having cars from the period … also owning 2 and 2 way older ones from the 1950is … 70is and 80is cars like the F40, Daytona, Miura, Countach or 512 BB and TR all have their issues but of course a have a lot of charm and are in some way purer than todays cars

Just back from another nice (but cold) drive. I just love this thing. It's more comfortable. than my gated R8 V10 and yet more nimble and faster.

Maybe I'm not the best to judge a car by reliability/service bills as I also own a 355GTS... My last major took my shop 6 months as I had to do valve guides - woops.

The car just feels so ahead of anything else from it's era and more in line with anything being offered by any other brand out there.
