details are still sketchy but new car rumored to have 5.0 V8tt with 799hp @ 7500rpms with 590lb ft torque Ricardo tuned engine. 7spd double clutch Graz trans. limited production of 500 units with a 4yr run. priced around $570-650K
Car should have performance and 'LOOKS' to match. hoping they keep weight @ around 2600-2800lbs (dry). McLaren has set it's sights on the Veyron this time around. this should be some battle tho out of my league CAN"T WAIT to see it unfold

veyron ss 0-200 22.0s whether the mega mac can break ss record run of 267.8mph is still unanswered. that's gonna be hard to beat. should be interesting

A 5.0 V8 is not going to be much heavier than a 3.8. Maybe a bit more weight because the radiators probably need to be a bit bigger when there are about 200 HP extra.

With more money to spend I guess that they should end up saving considerable weight over the 12C.

In the light of that I would find only gaining 0.6 sec up to 100 mph a bit disappointing.

The most spectacular part of the autocar story is the price they are mentioning.

That rumored £300k-400k is roughly halve of a 918 and the new Jaguar. And those two will already have a hard time keeping up with a 12C. No doubt that is also considerably less than the Enzo successor.


There is NO WAY McLaren will beat 267 mph with only 800 HP unless they make it a single seater !! The question is why would they even bother?

i agree...why bother with top end.....i think they want a track monster that NO ONE can touch (RING/DUNSFOLD record) that can be driven daily.....with GTR versions to follow.......i think they will shoot for going pass 240mph to eclipse the KING (F1)......wish they had gone the NA engine route......in any event it will have NO EQUAL @ that price point......heck the others will be lucky to come close to the 12C GT3 'road' car numbers.......there will be alot of late night R&D going on @ Porsche-Ferrari-Lambo-Pagani-Koenigsegg-Jaguar

Yeah - top speed is about hp vs. aero & rolling resistance. Weight doesn't have a whole lot to do with it. It's gonna be KILLER!

At 1575 I would actually consider that Aventador pretty porky. According to Sport Auto the Lambo V12 is only about 230 kg which for an engine that size seems excellent.

The Aventador uses more carbon fibre than a 12C so why is it so much heavier?

the weight for the P799 project is 100kg lighter than the MP4-12C. MP4-12C weight is (dry) 1336kg. what most seems to forget about the mclaren is that the ride comfort is no worse off than the new bmw 5 series. what mclaren is at least at this early stage is claiming is that the new P799 project is at that level of the P11 project at least. I find it bit strange that mclaren is claiming that the vehicle would be more sort of "Enzo" sort of car! ferrari is claiming that the new FX70 could even be fourwheel drive and a bit more "Bugatti" refinement!? anyway it's interesting days for those who loves technology on wheels

yep,458 is 1380kg dry,yet all the tests show 1585 to 1598 kerb,thats alot of fluid and extras without the driver,at least mclaren are honest in giving two weights for different options
maybe the engine in the new enzo is an option hence the low weight

are they bringing two of them to weigh........highly unlikely they claim a lot that end up not TRUE.........the F1 barely weighed that LITE......that was 15yrs ago before all the required safety

c'mon Ferrari, let's get this party started... bring the mille chile (1000 kg) concept, full carbon construction in a single-seater layout. half the interior weight, less airbags, narrow chassis and body, etc... 2200 lbs is possible. other passengers can follow you in the FF.

It looks like the Ferrari engine will be an ultra light weight Twin Turbo V8. Definitely will not have four wheel drive.

P799 vs F70

Given that Ferrari improve 3-4 seconds a lap on the Enzo compared to the 458 Italia then yes F70 should be as fast as an Ariel Atom V8. Ferrari 430 vs Enzo = 3 sec a lap!
