Peloton. also spill the beans on the HS. I'd say it's pretty much the biggest "rumor" outside of the NR time. I still think the HS claimed performance was bullshit because even the officially dealers couldn't provide any info when they were selling them recently.

BTW, CL, did you end up buying the white one?

I have the info you require on the HS power BHP, will PM you later....
Spill the beans on the HS, CL.
Lol.....I will PM EK, its up to him......
My PM Inbox is feeling very neglected... :(

Hey Peloton, any pictures of that darker grey/silver F1 with the high downforce kit?
I think you mean chassis 018? Here are a few of mine...

Each of those are clickable for larger versions. :)

The problem I have always had with the claims of additional power with the HS is that it should have required re-certification with the EPA for the cars that came to the USA and I find it difficult to believe that they could have amortized the costs of that effort across the 5 we got at the price they were sold for. We also know what it took now for McLaren to add more power to the M838T for the 650S (the same or less power than has been quoted by different sources for the HS models) so that doesn't help to lend credibility to the rumors.

Answer should be 'No' as it wasn't actually for sale.

A closeup of that "cool" black license plate reveals it is made from carbon fiber.

Clickable again. :)

My PM Inbox lit up recently with a message from citylad. However, so as not to continue driving this thread off track, I have moved the latest update in the 12C High Sport power saga ( ...if you can call it that? ) to a more appropriate location:

May 9 2015 Candy Apple Red McLaren Sighted

A candy apple red McLaren passed our car in Wheatland, CA (near Roseville) on Saturday May 9, 2015. Does anyone know who may own it? We were too busy drooling over the beautiful car to get a look at the driver.

Yes, that was chassis 042. The owner is a private individual - not a name anyone would know. He's owned the car since ~2005 and also briefly owned chassis 016 as well for a period of about two years.

Here's a couple of pics borrowed from Flickr in case you didn't snap one:

The wheels on the car in these photos are non-standard. Do you recall if it was still wearing them when you saw it?

Musk owned chassis 067 but sold it in 2007 to a Minnesota investment banker in a cash crunch to support his Tesla and SpaceX ventures. With Elon at the wheel in September 2003, this chassis was actually my very first encounter with a McLaren F1 road car.

A couple of years after Musk sold it, the car famously caught fire in Santa Rosa, California after several months in storage due to a catalytic convertor problem. It appeared totalled, but was able to be rebuilt by the boys at MSO in Woking over the next 12 months or so, preserving the majority of the original chassis. The gentleman who purchased it from Musk still has the car in in his collection today, which now also includes a McLaren P1.

Here's a couple of shots of 067 taken recently in the owner's garage by my friend Alex Bellus.

So many of these transactions occur away from the public eye. I'm rarely privy to exact transaction values, having to rely on word-of-mouth from multiple sources so I wouldn't call myself an expert in any way.

Price is dependent on many numbers of factors with these cars having different histories and conditions after 20 years. I'd put the range of prices above 10M USD, stretching upwards from there, sometimes quite significantly. About the only F1 that could be purchased for less than that 8-figure entry-price should be a longtail GTR, and even then the ask on the one currently on the market apparently approaches that number anyway.

In a way it seems, you are just as lucky if you can afford one as you are if you can find one to buy, so it's truly a seller's market where the increasing values have allowed owners to wait for THEIR price.
