Just a warning.

The aluminum undertray in front of the rear diffuser can get loose and can/will fall off!!! Check your car immediately. All it takes is a 10 mm socket to tighten it up.

I drove my 12C to Houston for Thanksgiving weekend and while driving down the freeway heard a loud crash and subsequent scrapping sound. I got off the freeway and noticed that the aluminum tray had folded backwards and was scraping the ground!! I drove it to my In-Law's place. He didn't have any jack or lift so I had to go buy one. The undertray is held by 10 bolts/washers. My car had only 2 left on it!!! I took the tray off. It was mangled up and bent. I straightened out the alum panel, bought some bolts/washers and Locktite and reattached it. Once I had the right tools it was a simple fix. The hassle it caused ruined my plans for the evening(which really ticked off my wife).

Make sure you check your car. I called my dealership and the service adviser admitted that they had seen some cars with loose bolts. I would recommend buying some Locktite and then bolting it back up. Good insurance and worth it.

Bad luck Ritesh.

Until now I was glad the Mac didn't use too many screws - the GTs rear diffuser sections have 48-ish screws that need removing to get to the drain plugs for oil changes, and I always thought this was over the top, until now......

If you're ever in need of tools, help etc in Houston, contact me, I've got a four post lift etc. Hope you (and your wife) recover from this mishap!

Ritesh,as has been said,have your service team never taken this panel off before?? Although im thinking that it might only have to come off only at service?? So are we saying it wasnt bolted up correctly at the MPC ?? But thanks for the warning for everyone

The car was in service for a check engine light for which they have to get to the fuel tank/pump. I suspect they had to take the tray off but I hope that isn't really the reason it is missing 10 bolts!!

I will find out tmrw when I talk to the service adviser.

Bingo, the facts come out! Service advisor covering their asses (and a disservice to the brand) saying its an issue. What dealership, so that we can avoid them.

Has to be !! When you watch them at the MPC there is no rush with anything ,just calm and efficient.Someone has taken their eye off the ball Ritesh !!
Lets face it 1 or 2 bolts loose,but 10 !!

Sorry to dig up this old thread, But ..... today I accidentally dropped a marker pen in the engine bay and, it tumbled down some place into the engine bay area. I can't see anything ..... so I'm assuming that it's laying in the car's undertray. I'm thinking of going up to my dealership and have them remove the tray and find this item that I dropped. Is this a fairly quick procedure to remove the belly pan that's underneath the engine ??

I removed mine by hitting a high point in a concrete car park. It was labour free but cost £650 to replace. The dealer said the labour cost is minimal as it is designed for fast removal and replacement.

I was going to visit my service center soon for a software update for a minor thing; So ..... now I'll have them disassemble the tray and locate this little item; I would think it could only take a few minutes to perform this, since you said the tray is "designed for fast removal/replacement"
No way in hell that I could ever crawl under this low car !!!

The only reason I ask is a magnet might work, or maybe you could lift the front end and allow it to roll to the back. It's totally plastic. So ......... I guess I'll just let the dealer do it; I'm sure it's simple thing to do when you have a vehicle lift.

You could always remove the rear bottom plate then accelerate up a steep incline. You may also want to install a GoPro on the rear of your car to record the event, just to confirm your marker has been ejected from your car. After all that is done you could post it on Mac Life for all of us you view, good luck LimeyBloke. Cheers.....??

Lost a metal clip in a similar fashion and "removed" it with a fast left turn. There are openings to the undertray on both sides just inside of the rear wheels. See crappy iPhone photo below (and yes, I do clean the top side of my car):

That looks like one small hole for a marker to get through. I had another thought though put some super sticky tuck tape on each one of those openings then do what N8te did and maybe you'll catch the little bugger. If so you may be able to pull it through that small hole or you could remove the fasteners est voilà LimeyBloke has his marker back. Cheers....??

Lucky for me, my dealer is a 15 min. ride away ...... And, my compulsive side really wants to know that this plastic cap out and not just laying somewhere in the belly pan. Otherwise, with my damn luck it will be caught near a hot turbocharger and ignite !
I spent sometime trying to look in the engine compartment tonight, but to no avail. It's a jungle down there. All I got was a very sore back.
N8te ..... I did notice those openings in the side of the pan, when I looked through the spokes in the rear wheels. I just think I'll save myself time and aggravation and let the shop do it. Maybe they will take pity on an old bugger, lol
(p.s. this cap is roughly the size of a Bic lighter.)
