Im finally getting around to working on my garage. Im looking for flooring ideas. We have a large size garage (Garage is 36' deep by 40' wide 1440 sqft) to work with so Im also getting bids on installing a drain so I can wash the cars without too much of a mess on the ground.

I have seen a few options: Epoxy, tile, race deck. I dont perform any serious work in the garage so im not worried about oil and heavy tools. Just looking for something visually appealing and can withstand some washes and detailing (i enjoy that part).

Im leaning toward epoxy for the simplicity but I have seen a few tile jobs that look outstanding. I feel like race deck would annoy me with dirt etc getting underneath the flooring.

Thanks Jeff and Topcarbon. I was worried the cleaning and maintenance would be a pain with race deck and I didn't think about the look after driving on it for a week or so. That would be a real bummer if it was always looking filthy

You can’t beat a professionally done epoxy. Not something you can do yourself, they have big machines to prepare the concrete. Refinish it every 5 years.

Was just researching the same. Decided on epoxy but now my dilemma is whether to do it myself or have it professionally done. My house is fairly new so the garage floor is pretty smooth with no oil or anything.

As in the post above, there is no comparison.

I had epoxy in the garage of our old house. Looked nice for a year or so, but then started to wear, stain and peel, especially where cars were going in and out.

I went with a cement stain and sealant for our present garage. I have really liked this option. Sealant has healed up very well and the surface coloring really looks nice, IMHO. Gives the whole garage a nice look. Lots of color options and depth of color based on exposure time.

Any details on specific product used? Pics? Thanks in advance!

Was it professionally done or DIY? I did a storage room myself and it deteriorated too.

They had these drum sanders about four feet wide. A zillion possible combinations of colors and chips. Could drag an anvil across it with no scratch. Brake cleaner does no harm.

I just ordered the commercial grade epoxy and ill do it myself. I was quoted $1500 on average to do my garage....ill be saving a little more than $1000 by doing it myself. Ill take pics when its done!
Hope it works better for you than it did for me. Have you seen a professional job to compare?

I recieved a quote for epoxy. They are recommending topping with a polyaspartic coating to help with retained finish. My garage measured at 1440 sqft. the quote was $5670.09 installed. this includes $420.09 to remove the existing coating (previous owner had a cheap coating done that was peeling and not an ideal color choice).

Does this sound about right for a professional Job? Im pretty handy and would love to do it myself but I know Ill never get to complete it, finding time is the hardest part.
