Looking for a mclaren savvy mechanic

I've been assembling parts for a McLaren P1 for many moons, and now have everything to build one from the ground up. Yes, it's a big pile of all the parts required to build an entire P1. No, I'm not Tavarish. Project will be done in Denver. Anyone happen to know anyone (mechanic wise) that might be willing to fly in for a week here/there to help us move the project along? This is of course a compensated thing and will pay for travel as well.

I apologize for all these questions but I think this is fascinating

when you go to register it, is it a kit? Reconstructed title? How does Colorado deal with this type of build?

Depends.

best case with the tub(s) we acquire is a salvage tub that has a vin. Worst case it’s a kit car. A very. Very. Expensive kit car.
But these parts deserve to live. A crime not to put them on the road in P1 form.

Looking forward to your build! I'm also in Denver. I'd love to swing by sometime to see the progress if you'd be up to having visitors swing by!

Sure. Once we get rolling would be great.

Awesome. Btw, you wouldn't happen to know Luke from bespoke motorworks? Not sure if he has wrench time on a P1, but certainly works on the other Macs.

I don’t know him

Serious question: you have obviously been contemplating/planning this project for a significant amount of time. Was it a bummer when Tavarish, in a matter of months, decided to do a very similar build and got a bunch of press for it?

We aren't doing it for the press. We love Mclaren and this P1 deserves to live. And it's a badass thing to say..."built a P1 from the ground up".

You need a p1 certified tech with the proper tools . There’s a special computer/tool for the accumulators that are specific to ultimate series . Many indie techs do not have this or even have access to it . It might be something that you’d have to do a one off with someone else (this specific procedure )….

you don’t want to be an experiment or a learning experience for someone . These guys are also very busy and probably don’t want to leave their home location to do it .

if You want an indie then lar in Sf Bay Area or Daniel in Huntington Beach . Mike with lar has extensive p1 experience when he worked at Mac Sf and worked on my car . Daniel has extensive experience with p1’s when he worked at Mac Newport and I’ve used him for some significant work . I’d bring it to them vs. them
coming to you .

I recently met a p1 owner from your area who was telling me about your project (he’s a mutual acquaintance). I’m interested to see how this turns out .
Thanks for this - and 100% agree. The local Mclaren dealer has agreed to help, so we aren't 100% on our own...but we need a strong lead to get this done.

a kit car is better than a salvaged title.

The press came from the car being famous to start with, which to no coincidence, is also why he saw an opportunity to do it.

Understood. Just putting myself in OP's shoes I would be annoyed to have worked on this project forever only to have someone do the exact same thing a few months before me. Regardless, I am excited for the build and will definitely follow along because, as OP said, cars like that deserve to live.

They're very different projects, and one could help the other in terms of experience and resources. It doesn't have to be a competition space, they both have the same goal.

How many different sources of P1 spare parts are out there?

Dealers, distribution, hoarders, and salvage.
... and ones obtained by questionable means!

I'm curious if OP could collaborate with Tavarish to get his build completed as well. That'd be a pretty awesome way to get some publicity and possibly guest appear in each other's builds.
