Lemonade (LIMONATA)

In literally 5 minutes, you can write an article about a car being a lemon, by quoting user problems from message boards. I bet I can find 15 issues for any new car. Ah, what the heck, let's give it a try now. Let's use the the Ferrari 458, just picking cars out of a hat, now... ;)

1. Front lifter failure
2. Bluetooth doesn't work
3. Brake calipers leak
4. Premature wearing of ceramic brake pads
5. Windshield washer fluid bubbles out onto car
6. Door seal came off
7. Transmission failure within 250 miles
8. Wiper fluid doesn't work
9. Side marker lights filled with water
10. Transmission light came on and off intermittently
11. Steering failure within first 400 km
12. Engine breather pipe recalled
13. Air conditioner leaks & blows hot air
14. Speaker problem
15. ECU requires remap

Anything else? Oh yeah, there is the small issue of the engine bay catching on FIRE and burning the whole car to the ground.

You are absolutely right. A lot of people would much rather crap on the 2% of something that is not quite perfect than marvel at the other 98% that is perfect.
Definitely.

The best thing about the Internet is that anybody can express their opinion. And the worst thing about the Internet is that anybody can express their opinion!

Maybe somebody should contact Jalopnik. There is definitely another article worth a few thousand page views.

Calitalia, are you getting nervous yet?
We all have problems 6E, its how they deal with it.
My first major problem cropped up yesterday, after running in i tried the launch control.
After going through the correct sequence,i found that the gearbox was fighting against the brakes and i overheated it and aborted the launch, this in turn has made the box shift from 7th to 2nd when holding the paddle when braking into a slow corner and stopping the airbrake working.
After a conversation with the tech guys im assuming the launch wasnt talking to the gearbox and the overheating has caused the other problems.
After a period of cooling down the airbrake is now fine, but the other problems still exsist.
They want to pick up the car straight away, but as there are so many fail safes on the systems it not a problem to drive round this by flipping your downshifts instead of holding the paddle(which is more rewarding anyway). And i can wait for the launch.(if nothing is coming thru and its raining, they can have it)
So as im having so much fun,i am waiting until the next mapping upgrade is ready in a couple of weeks,as they are constantly improving the electical systems, until i let them have it.
All the problems seems to be electical glitches and not hardware so i have no worries, and if i do they are on the end of the line ,literally 24 hours a day,and thats MAC guyS
So if there is a problem, and there will be on these early cars, they are on it like a shot.I was hoping for a perfect car,but im over the moon with the 98%,and they are onto the 2% straight away

Yes, that's my point, andy. You can't single out McLaren. Ferrari is having major issues after 60 years in the business and 3 years into the 458 production cycle. There are always problems but you are correct, it is how they are handled. Hopefully Mc gets yours sorted promptly.

Eh, that Ferrari user is completely atypical though. He put 2,500 miles on the car in only 3 months. They're just not built for that kind of abuse. Makes sense that he's been through three transmissions. I mean, what's he thinking? Most guys who buy a new Ferrari never get to 2,500 miles, because they're too afraid no one else will want her.

I quite dislike this type of thinking (not blaming you - blaming the people who think this way). I definitely understand people being wary of putting miles on a car... but unless the car is a special edition (Speciale, Scud, etc.) it's going to lose value no matter what. Some people use it as a third car to drive once a month or have other cars as well - so i can understand that. But I will never understand why people don't drive a car to keep its value if its a non-special edition car.

I just started daily driving the 12C Spider and I love it.
