Thank you all for the reassurances. I'm sure that, at this point, very little can stop me from getting this car as soon as I can. From all the other posts/pages I had read about IRIS and production delays were making sound pretty "amateur hour" and that didn't sound at all like the McLaren I grew up adoring. It's good to hear that while it's a frustrating bit (having an integrated component not working as promised), it's a minor bit of the car and the rest of it more than makes up for it.
It also helps to remember the scope of this venture that McLaren has undertaken. Not only the design and manufacture of a new car (and subsequent models already in the pipe), but the construction of a world-class manufacturing facility, the genesis of the McLaren GT racing program, now also the Pure McLaren Driving program, the MSO group, etc., etc., all while keeping their eye on the ball in their current lines of business (there are several) including Formula One, where they are currently leading the Constructors championship!
Just the HR/staffing needs alone of these projects must be mind boggling- I can hardly fathom how they can hire people fast enough. And, as I posted in another thread, they have only now hired a global branding and marketing firm. This is not directly in defence of the IRIS delay, but it's going to take a while before all aspects of the business are up to McLaren's own very high standards. Whenever I feel frustrated that information is not available as readily as I'd like, I remind myself that this is no ordinary feat that McLaren is pulling off. And still, they are finding the time to engage owners for feedback and send regular updates down the pipe to the early cars. It's mighty impressive.
