McLaren could certainly keep their own ownership ledger, although I don't really see why they would do it on a public blockchain. Immutability of the blockchain doesn't really confer much benefit from McLaren's perspective, nor does decentralization. Having a public ledger could help people understand how ofter cars change hands, but it could also reduce anonymity for customers, depending on how it was implemented. If someone can figure out the identity of a buyer from one car, they could then look for all the other cars that identity has owned on the chain.
Well one reason to keep their own is for privacy of owners. But your points all seem reasonable.

That's a problem with the byzantine patchwork of laws across 50 states, not with the lack of a centralized ledger for ownership. And again, to make a centralzied ledger work, you'd need to enact federal legislation or get all 50 states to agree on the new standard going forward, then you'd also need all 50 DMV's to update their software systems to utlize the new system. Then you'd need to update all current titles into the new blockchain, or continue to support both the old title system and new blockchain system until there are no old titles left (which could take a really long time).
It's both. Part of the issue with mine was paperwork. It was mailed from CO, there was an issue with it, it was mailed back, it was returned to TX, then there was a problem with a previous title transfer in OK, so documents were mailed again.

I realize it's not going to be an easy thing to transition to, but it's not difficult to imagine some of the more progressive states managing to agree on a system, with other states gradually joining it. I'm sure there'd be the usual holdouts, states' rights, etc, hence Juneteenth.

you will probably be able to get an Artura NFT long before the car.

i would love to hear what they mean with the metaverse that they keep on referring to.

i guess you at some time in the future could have a system where the only way of having a mclaren in your chosen metaverse (FB, Fortnite, Microsofts version) is buy owning an NFT of your car...
My guess is that transaction costs (gas fees plus other fees) will be more than the value of the NFTs. not exactly a low friction system yet.

It may eventually be one step further than that. You'll buy an nft for the electronic version of your car that you drive around in the metaverse, and never own the physical car!

There was an earlier press release -
“The partnership with InfiniteWorld, which announced entry into an agreement with Aries I Corporation in December 2021, will enable McLaren to offer customers a deeper, more engaged digital experience, including the creation and minting of original NFTs (non-fungible tokens) and digital artwork that will represent McLaren’s luxury supercars and hypercars.

Select NFTs may be offered with additional unique benefits, including access to exclusive, buyer-only experiences. All will then be made available on a McLaren marketplace.”

i hope i am too old to care about it by the time that happens...;)
and even in your scenario i'm not sure NFT is the solution to that issue (buying and owning an object in whatever virtual environment we chose to spend part of our time in). I think there will be some really cool stuff that blockchain and NFTs will be able to work with, but not everything

some of this nft/blockchain stuff is so engineering driven, i.e. here is a techology what can we use it for? the opposite of what made apple apple and why Steve Jobs was a genius. Here is a problem/issue how do we solve that?

A website with a membership or email distribution list or whatsapp group could all offer everything that that NFT will be able to do
and i'm not sure metamask is a great place to story anything of real value...

anyhoo will be interesting to see what they will come up with over the next couple of years. very early days

MSO LAB from McLaren reveals Genesis Collection details
5 May 2022
  • McLaren’s iconic Ultimate Series P1™ and track P1™ GTR, the world’s first hybrid hypercar, revealed to be the inspiration for MSO LAB first NFT (Non-Fungible Token) drop
  • Limited to 2,012 (to mark the year the P1™ was revealed to the world) in five tiers
  • Membership of MSO LAB provides access to rare NFT drops and opportunity to unlock unique member experiences, opportunities, and utilities
  • Allowlist opens to specially invited audiences for expressions of interest before the Genesis Collection goes on sale on May 11 on McLaren marketplace
  • McLaren marketplace supported by InfiniteWorld, McLaren Automotive’s metaverse partner
British luxury supercar maker McLaren Automotive has today revealed details of its first Genesis Collection drop for the recently launched MSO LAB digital community.
The ultra-limited, invitation-only mint, celebrates one of McLaren's most desirable cars - the P1™, the world’s first hybrid hypercar to be launched, and its track-only variant, the P1™ GTR.
A decade on from its launch, the P1™ remains a true icon of performance and ground-breaking technology.
Only 2,012 randomly generated P1™ & P1™ GTR NFTs will be minted in reference to 2012, the year that it was unveiled to the world at the Paris Motor Show, and each will have a completely unique MSO LAB treatment.
Aside from the P1TM skins awarded to 14 MSO LAB honorary members which include luminaries from the worlds of arts, fashion and crypto, only 1,998 NFTs will be available to buy from McLaren’s marketplace, nft.mclaren.com, supported by its metaverse partner InfinteWorld.
It will be a fully randomized mint with each NFT priced at 0.5ETH.
The Genesis Collection drop will be comprised of five tiers with eight unique traits which are:
  • LAB Studio: P1™, Treatment: level one paint and pinstripe. Limited to only 1,000
  • LAB Studio+: P1™, Treatment: level two paint, more detailed pinstriping and fades. Limited to only 893
  • LAB Works: P1™ GTR, Treatment: MSO LAB livery in color combinations. Limited to only 100
  • LAB Honorary of P1™ or P1™ GTR not available for purchase and to be gifted to select members of the McLaren community
  • LAB Icons, P1™ & P1™ GTR, bespoke. Limited to only five, each with a unique McLaren design.
      • 1. A P1™ GTR in McLaren’s iconic papaya color with Bruce McLaren’s racing number ‘four’
      • 2. The iconic P1™ that carries the famous ‘OOV’ license plate
      • 3. The P1™ ‘sister’ press car carrying the ‘OOU’ license plate
      • 4. A P1™ in full black visual carbon fibre
      • 5. A post-race P1™ GTR, bearing all the signs of having recently come off the track

Holders of Genesis Collection NFTs will each gain membership to an MSO LAB digital community that will push the boundaries of access and experience.
The collection will drop at 09:00 ET on May 11 giving the opportunity for priority access for McLaren owners and other specially-invited individuals. 48 hours later at 09:00 ET on May 13, the remaining NFTs within the collection will open to a select group of invited wider NFT communities.
Each buyer will receive their NFT as a 1:1 render of a front three-quarters view of their P1™ or P1™ GTR accompanied by a 1:1 animation featuring the unique treatment and treatment credentials (non-transferrable on resale).
In addition, they will each receive a 9:16 render of the rear shot of their P1™ or P1™ GTR (non-transferrable on resale) and, of course, membership of the new MSO LAB by McLaren digital community.
The utility will evolve as McLaren continues to engage with the MSO LAB community and to explore with them the possibilities of the Web3 era; harnessing new and innovative ways to push the boundaries of access, ownership, and experience.
“It is entirely fitting that our P1TM, the world’s first hybrid hypercar that we launched, should be the inspiration behind McLaren’s first Genesis Collection from MSO LAB that we unveiled today.
“This invite-only, ultra-limited, randomized mint comprises five MSO LAB tiers and, when it goes on sale on the McLaren marketplace soon, will be limited to only 2, 012 NFTs in recognition of the year the P1TM was unveiled.
Each buyer will also become a member of the MSO LAB digital community which will continue will push the boundaries of access and experience.”
Gareth Dunsmore, Chief Marketing Officer, McLaren Automotive

A couple of years ago, I would have thought this was all a complete load of utter bollocks, but having followed the 765LTS spec thread for a while.....
A couple of years ago saw this at Pebble “McLaren’s immortal supercars, a journey that will be all the more exciting by virtue of its extraordinarily bespoke specification”

Strangely enough, I quite like that colour combo, particularly the interior. I sure as hell wouldn't pay MSO pricing for it though, even if it did come with an NFT.....

IIRC this paint was one of a kind - reserved only for Fux. In 50 years time guess these cars will be on show at a museum.
