how hard to retrofit McLaren telemetry, or is it even worth it?

I am coming from the C8 Corvette world. And after wrestling with a Dragy and separate iPhones on windshield mounts, I can attest to how extremely amazing and helpful the Corvette PDR pack is. It takes videos, overlays the car's speed, tach and all sorts of stuff on TO the video and shows Gs and acceleration and or/lap timing. I have no experience with the telemetry kit on the 2018 720S. I found a 720S car that is a Unicorn. I call them "Rosetta Stone" cars, because if you hold their build sheet up to another car, they have an example of one of everything and all other cars pale. But... sadly, no Telemetry. so, not quite a Rosetta Stone, I guess.

So, what to do? Am I going to track? Maybe. Not a whole lot. Am I going to VLOG and maybe try some performance mods, before and after? yeah. Am I going to amuse friends by showing them the results? sure...

Is the telemetry worth it, and is it retrofit-able?

Good question - does it have the 360 cameras?
My car has parking sensors but no cameras, so I'd need to add those (and not sure if the cars are all wired the same, ready for cams/telemetry) as well.
Curious if anyone's done it!
Perhaps I should’ve put this into the tech forum? Is there any way for the admin to move us to tech? Or can I cross post?
Most people here just click the 'NEW' button and see what's new and read what interests them. Moving the thread probably won't help in getting some information - I doubt anyone has ever done the upgrade, it would very likely be a major job. Nobody has even really managed to ADB into the IRIS, so you'll probably need the dealer to activate the option which will probably be expensive.

Maybe ask the dealer if they can activate the feature in the software first?

Everything's retrofitable, but some retrofits are more expensive than others. I've seen your videos; you obviously know this already.

But it probably doesn't matter, because I think the telemetry will be something you play with a few times and then never touch again. That's just a guess based on what you wrote. But even if I'm wrong, the cost to install a nice third-party system will almost certainly be less than the cost of adding the McLaren system. And the third-party system might even be open source and/or supported for longer than McLaren will support theirs.

There are 2 varieties of track telemetry. One is data only via an app, one is cameras as well. The way to tell if it's the one you're after (cameras) is there will be a camera on the interior behind the driver in the center of the roof. Few cars have it, even fewer use it.
