New problem....."High Brake Lamp Fault...Contact McLaren Service Center" Wife confirms high brake lamp in the middle no longer comes on when I hit the brakes. I pulled the high brake light out of my air brake and put 12Vdc into and nada nothing, doesn't light. LED's are supposed to last for ever so I'm surprised this failed! The LED light strip/board can't be that expensive but wrap it in McLaren plastic and I bet it costs a fortune. Do I replace the whole unit or ideally just the light boardt? I see separate PN's on the back for the Lens, housing, inner lens but not the light strip itself.... I searched and nobody else has reported this sorta failure so must be my bad luck.

Yeah, my bet is water ingress at one time and corroded the board or its connector... I did read somewhere, maybe here, that someone fixed it themselves but it was an involved process to get it apart & R&R the board/LED's...

After my posting I started Googling looking for a used part and stumbled across a few listings all of which are long gone. BUT one in the UK intrigued me, see picture below where the clear cover and amplifying lenses are gone. It shows the light board is a series of LED Chips soldered to a board. Doubt all of the LED's died more likely the voltage regulation circuit that drops 12VDC to something less prolly 5VDC might be bad. I had already put everything back together but recall seeing blue tape circles, look at first pic above, that I now realize might be sealing the back of the unit and covering screws that allow me to take the whole thing apart. I assumed it was a sealed unit like the headlights but now I'm gonna see if I can take it apart and analyze the circuit board more closely. Also notice in the first pic there are PN's for the LENS, Housing, Inner Lens as if they can be ordered/replaced separately. Prolly not from the dealer but from the OEM manufacturer which I think from the very first line on the back of the unit is PEREI which is the Perei Automotive group aka lite-wire.com Crazy as it sounds now that I'm typing all of this I wonder if there is a dedicated fuse for this light that has blown. Low voltage like this should not be adversly affected by a little moisture but a moisture short to ground would blow a fuse....
