I've never been accused of making great car decisions, but I do have fun making mistakes. In fairness, they usually work out... eventually. What have I done this time? I found the cheapest MP4-12C in the U.S. on cargurus with a clean title and no accidents, a 2012 with 24k miles, then I called and talked them down another $7k. I knew there was very likely something wrong with it and I knew they were eager to get rid of it, so I obliged. I used their shady transport and had it delivered from Phoenix to Nashville.
Upon first start up, the CEL was already flashing. sweet! idle? rough. awesome! I parked it in the garage and started taking things apart.
All in all, it's actually in decent shape. It really looks like it's had a long hard life of short miles. Lots of sitting and being neglected (by no or uninformed service), more so than being driven hard. If there's a cover that a mechanic without the ability to read could break, it's broken. Too much oil? check. But basically no rock chips, and everything actually works.
Anyway, I'm excited to use this platform and it's lack of perfection to confidently build the perfect car for me. I'm going to try to get it buttoned up before a rally from Chicago to New Orleans in 3 weeks. Trial by fire! I've already got a little project I'm excited to show you all to hopefully improve the entertainment experience, without touching Iris.
I can ramble for days. I'm just excited to be a part of this community and to contribute. I've been lurking and learning from all of you for countless hours and I look forward to giving back!
