My preference, on the street, is to control the shifting at low to mid rpm using the paddles, but at high rpm, it shifts automatically, so i can focus on driving and not bouncing off the rev limiter.

On the track, i may get used to listening for the rpm limit and changing based on sound, but i still want to focus on the road and not on any display!
Write in the suggestion to mclaren. You want the ability to change from auto to manual and have that specific button located on the steering wheel...

Does any car have that specific button on the steering wheel?

I just took the dealership Artura out - the A/M button on the binnacle, switches instantly between A and M. Easy to reach with both hands on steering wheel

I get that …. It’s not on the actual steering wheel though ….

I have only made one suggestion to mclaren and that was with p1 - drs and ipas button . Both of these buttons are on the steering wheel ….. I asked them to change the functionality so that one didn’t need to press and hold for those two things to engage (it’s a bit difficult to do when also paddle shifting )…. I asked them to change it and that it should be engaged with one press (no need to keep pressing the button ), and it should disengage with just another press and/or lifting off the accelerator (like brake fill)….

They actually did write down my suggestion and thought it was a good idea ….. unfortunately, they never did it and it’s probably because I’m the only one who suggested it

So I spent the morning shaking down a new prototype race car from Revolution (the head guy was a founder of Radical) at Sebring...I really liked the car but to the buttons on the steering wheel: Yeah it starts out as a simple manual/auto switch...and before you know it, you have this: (it was the busiest compact steering wheel I have every experienced - not to say it was bad, but it was busy)

Any pictures of the car?

,,, and how is your back, after driving on Sebring's notoriously poor track surface?

I went around Sebring in a 765LT doing sub 2:20 on Trofeo R's .... the car certainly needed slicks, even in hot, May heat!

What do people think of these Citroen XM finger tip switches on the Artura? Are they easy & comfortable to use without looking? Is there an emergency Nail Repair Kit in the Central Armrest if the worst should happen?

The 720s is essentially a GT3 car with AC, why would you NOT like buttons on the steering wheel, look at F1.
I don’t need to change brake bias mid corner, have multiple fuel strategy settings available to me, or have a comms or drinks button. I don’t like buttons on steering wheels. I do like the Artura switches. Everyone is different, though.

So far I like the binnacle switches - easy to reach with finger(s) while keeping hands on the steering wheel. Of course as the switches are ‘new’ there is a tendency to be exploring the modes, including the additional electric mode more often than I use the modes on the 570 and 720 cars. And yes the A/M and ESC buttons are small diameter, not much of a problem for my clipped short nails but perhaps wife long nails would have a problem - don’t think she uses manual mode or ESC off though.

When I first saw the "Citreon XM" switches, I also thought what kind of crap is this? But then I found out that they feel very high quality and work well. Aesthetically I still find them ugly, but they work very well. No nail-breaking, nothing. They work.

I don't like the way it looks either, but functionally it's a good solution.
