Harness Options?

4497 Views 31 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  McDc
Getting ready for the first track day.. Has anyone been able to find an option to fit a 6 point harness?

Not being properly strapped will definitely knock the driving down a few 10ths..

Not yet. But soon. MSO dept are working on it.
It's not so simple!! Remember the harness would have to be bolted into the CF Tub!!

What are the GT3 cars doing as a solution? I am guessing having a full cage with harnesses that attach to the back of the cage

I'm really eager to find out, what they come up with. As Ritesh says, it can't be a simple "bolt-on" solution. You would need some threads in the CF tub. Tricky.

Again, I'm very very surprised that nobody at McLaren seemed to think about this feature for a car which is supposed to work on track and road

Is this a wish list, or is that from the horse's mouth?...
Seems like a harness-bar setup could easily be integrated to the MP4-12C interior by using a Cromoly (or the like) bar which spans from B-pillar to B-pillar, connecting at the stock seatbelt shoulder-mount hardpoints of the passenger cabin.

The shoulder harness-belts would be affixed to the harness bar, whereas the lap harness-belts would be affixed to the floor-mounted stock seatbelt lap-mount hardpoints of the passenger cabin.

For additional 5/6 point anti-sub harness-belts, a Cromoly (or the like) bar can be affixed underneath the lower-seat cushion, attached to the seat-base frame or seat-mount rail/bracket..

Just thinking outloud, from afar.
Mounting a (racing) harness at the same point like the seat itself is considered unsafe.

Confirmed by MSO.

Will it be retrofittable to current cars or a new-from-factory option only ? Did you got any word on pricing ?

Anyway many thanks for sharing this important information with us !

retro fit. under £15k excl wheels & hub.

Thanks.

But sorry, that price is nothing more than a JOKE. £15k in a supercar just to get a 5 or 6 point harness that should be a factory no cost/low cost option ?

I'm thinking about cancelling my visit to MTC this summer, this is really dissapointing and the 12C clearly meant to be more of a boulevard racer than a so called AND-car.

Given McLaren's racing heritage, I just don't get it

And bucket style seats :)
they called them, sport seats...you say potato, i say patata:)

you going to VMAX in the morning?
oops. inc roll cage..
Surely it just a roll bar or harness bar and not a complete cage?
nope. it says roll cage.
hmmm. I'm very interested to see as that may have implications for regular road use!

Yes , please come down . I want to see the mac , I'll let you test the more serious black ;)
So they'll be using the roll cage from the GT3 then? That seems the most likely anyway, with the centerlock wheels and hubs I'd say they'd be off the GT3 aswell.....looks like you may have to order the GT3 in bits n pieces to get one for now...
