Folding Wing Mirrors - how much reduced width?

8352 Views 14 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  Naranja
Would one of you lucky few already enjoying a 12C be able to post up some pictures of the mirrors in folded position please?

I'm trying to get an idea of how much that reduces the width of the car to gauge how scared I need to be squeezing into tight spaces.

I know the official dimensions, mirrors included, are 2093mm and excluding mirrors 1908mm but wondering if when folded the mirrors fall inside the main body width or if there's still material protruding...

Thanks

There's no real width saving for parking, maybe a couple of inches at best on either side. The supporting arms do not fold - only the mirror housing rotates inward. I think the main benefit is that it turns the mirror face towards the car, making it slightly less likely to get clipped or sideswiped. Also, you won't return to find a lady of the night using it to fix her lipstick.

Hope these pics illustrate, sorry for the poor lighting as it is evening already.
Hmmm can't upload from iPhone right now using tapatalk. Don't know why. Will have to try again later. Sorry.

Probably the lady of the night affecting your concentration R:D
Curse those ladies...
Another example of McLarens AND car design philosophy; the looks to attract ladies of ill repute AND the mobile make-up paraphernalia to help them maintain the illusion:)
I am sure that the mirrors only fold in enough to equal the width of the rear quarters/arches.

I guess that if they went in any further, you'd get a nasty surprise as the rear of the car follows you trough a width restriction.
I have a very tight fit and the folded mirrors made the squeeze more bearable..I would say 6+ inches atleast..happy to measure for you ...I think the width of rear quarters( as mentioned ) is a fair assessment but I can tell you the extra few inches seems significant when pulling into the garage..The first time I attempted I should have been wearing "Depends" .. Now I am relatively comfortable with the squeeze..
Thanks lads, looks like only a few inches shorter as the tip of the spar folds around..?

I was also worried but it goes in through a standard garage opening without a problem. Much easier than my old f430 where I had to remember to get out and fold the mirrors each time or there was going to be red line on the door frame:D
I was told when folded they are the same width of the rear arches but not 100%
trying pics again...
6E, this may seem like a stupid question; your car is LHD and I'm assuming you climb out of the drivers door so, I also assume that the door opens comfortably with it parked like that? If so, it's actually very encouraging re garage size...

Not stupid at all, Naranja. Yes, it's all very easy, as I tried to explain to some critics here that just wouldn't listen. The door opens fully up and out of the way and it is easier to get in and out than a conventional car (where I would only be able to open the door halfway and have to shimmy out). And my garage spots are standard width, if not slightly less.

Great stuff, thanks!
If/when you get chance (no rush) could you measure the gap between the car door (the high point at the shoulder I guess) and the wall when it's parked as normal in the garage?
Thanks again.
