I have now driven a 1000 miles on my 2025 GTS mostly through winding roads in east County San Diego and Julian area in less than a month.
The McLaren GTS’s morning ritual cold start lets all in earshot know that the beast has awaken for another day marked by exceptional performance, and sublime British engineering. A pure driver’s machine. It has been my daily driver, supplying a smile each time I head to and from my office.
It is by far the best handling, fun inducing rear drive sports car which I have had the privilege of driving. And I have been a daily caretaker for a Ferrari 458 Spider, Porsche GT3 RS 991.2, CT-V5 Blackwing and C8 Corvette Stingray among others. An unencumbered steering wheel (no controls on it) with hydraulic assist gives a true classic feedback to the driver. It is a brilliant steering feel only slightly rivaled by the steering feel of a 1972 Porsche longhood tearing through a favored landscape.
Glorious exhaust notes bounce around the fish bowl cabin only giving way to the Ferrari 458’s naturally aspirated V8, but they are two different animals. Neither better than the other, providing their own individualized version of a grin, a rather large grin when either is untethered. Engage the McLaren GTS’s manual button, set it to sports performance and handling then let the 9,000 RPM limited (is this limited?, I think not) twin turbo V8 howl its approval on any road be it winding or a rolling open tarmac. Going up Palomar Mountain’s twisting blacktop unleashes the McLaren GTS’s V8 to bellow its dominance throughout the mountain.
Striking lines reminiscent of classic Pininfarina design sets it apart from other modern rivals. Interior design underlines it is a driver’s car with elevated styling, and leather encased seats which allow for comfortable seat time hours. Side door compartments are your glove box. It comes with satellite radio for longer journeys, but it will never be used by me as the symphony is coming from the rear mounted engine.
Buy it, drive it and relish a super car which will likely be only one in your neighborhood. Well done McLaren.
