My car is going in on monday for the first re-map,this will ajust the sensitivity of many of the sensors, and upgrade the system for more accurate info, such as fuel usage and remaining fuel, also the entertainment system is upgraded to show a proper date and time, radio function drop out and other problems with it i dont know about,as im the saddo who just listens to the car.
The drop out of the tracking system has also been fixed, there is to be another final mapping in a few weeks.
Im not sure if this is the one that will allow the held back cars to be released, but they are still making them.
Good news all round

Andy, the drive we had in your car today put these fix's in perspective in as much as compared to how brilliantly the car goes, turns thru' corners and stops it's a blast and the software glitches just an irritant, they are minor compared to the road dynamics. OK an irritant we will be glad to get rid of but I'd take a car now as it's so brilliant on the move, Thank's for the run and let us know how the fix works.

Wow, satisfied owners!! How can it be?? Meanwhile, competitors are still having gearbox failures three years after launch. Makes me think perhaps a recent adjustment to the torque interruption was to avoid (or maybe in lieu of) another full recall, rather than to further increase "emotional" shifting. But that is total speculation, of course!

Sensitive sensors don't seem so bad, in comparison!

Car back from re-mapping,i can see why they are now sending cars to europe(HUGO),All the sensor problems seem to be in the past, and the info system is up to speed, waiting for the iris.Just one more mapping to come in 3 weeks, they are testing it now.
Only one visable change is to the centre screen, when you turn on he electics, you now have the spinning logo thats at the beginning of the Mclaren website before the mclaren script appears.
As a footnote the re-mapping took 16 hours,so the car and laptop have to be left powered up overnight, thats alot of information

Wow, cool. What is the next mapping intended to fix?

Thanks for the update. I guess my car may get both mappings at the factory before being sent overseas.

Ton of info, could you do it yourself if you had the right connector?

Far more complicated than that im told,i think some hardware has to be fettled for each stage to be able to continue,at least thats how i understood the explanation,if something isnt quite perfect the download halts untill the obstacle is ajusted or removed.Thats a lay mans point of view,im sure an electrical engineer can explain it far better and thats if i understood it correctly

If you mean the gear box, i don't think that is correct. The 458 gear box is made by Getrag, the Mclaren by Graziano, both with input from the various factory's
Senna, you surprise me as when Mclaren released their early publicity they did the usual PR and said that the box was made in Italy, Graziano, at the same supplier as the 458 but the Mclaren engineers had rejected the original design, sent an engineer to set up camp at Graziano to make it more compact and nano kilo's lighter.

But I am capable of reading what I want to read!

Andy

Do you think they will include a throttle blip on the downchange? Have you asked for one from your McL insiders?

It's good fun and even a Nissan Z whatever has it!

+1 I don't see the point of it, if it doesn't improve shift performance. The revs should be perfectly matched to provide the fastest, smoothest shift and right amount of engine braking. Why over rev? For sound and fun? Definitely not McLaren - please don't do it.
On the race car, no blip needed, on the road car, why not a bit of fun.
