I’m starting to shop for a 720s and looking at carfax it seems most owners are not servicing their cars! I would say ~80% of cars available for sale have major gaps in service records per carfax (for example one oil change in 3 years!). Why would someone buy a $350-400k car and not service it? Also about 1/3 of cars have windshields replaced. Is there any explanation such as McLaren dealers not reporting Services to carfax? Thanks for any insights.

CARFAX is not very accurate. I wouldn’t rely on that and I would say that most do get them serviced.

O’GARA (Beverly hills) doesn’t report anything to carfax . You wouldn’t even know if a car originated from them either via carfax (this applies to all the marques they sell).

as Mike stated above ; carfax isn’t very accurate because not everyone reports to them and other reasons . Too much reliance on carfax by people i.m.o.

To check maintenance history go to a mclaren dealer
Pretty simple
That’s not so simple …..

I asked a multi supercar dealer and they told me that they are under no obligation to give out any service records to anyone other then the current owner and only the services performed by that dealer to that current owner.

Yes, I’m sure you are right. Typically the seller can get them and pass them along. I would imagine a selling dealer will not have a problem with providing records to sell the car as it’s in their best interest

Thanks for all the responses. I am surprised to see so many gaps in carfax for mclaren specifically but I understand. With the BMWs and Porsches I have owned, carfax has always captured accurately all services. On the windshields, are replacements "non-Mclaren" and therefore do not crack. Hate to see windshields as a wear and tear item! Thanks

To my knowledge their in not an alternative to the Mac glass. It does chip pretty easy. I replaced after I purchased my car due to lots of small specs....my care came from Colorado. Since then no issues. I keep hard copies of a my service records and scan and save them on my home and work server just in case I ever need them!

Few thousand and I could be wrong but the ESC doesn’t cover it right? But little research I did cars that had new windshield in the last couple years they have used different adhesive and they are good…someone can verify this but that’s what I gathered

So would it be reasonable to plan to replace windshield, gorilla glass, and accumulators in the first 2 years of ownership or would it be really bad luck? (Assuming a 2019 car). Just want to make sure I understand the math before jumping in. Thanks.

I have a '19 spider that needed accumulators (at 2500 miles) covered under original factory warranty. I've not had any windshield issues. Any car without complete documentation is a car that I won't consider purchasing.
