I have read in a number of areas on the forum that customers are ordering/ have received their cars with this option but I can't find out any information as to availability or cost on the McLaren configuration web site. Having now paid my second deposit but not yet signed the conformation order, I wondered if anyone can give me any information about and any photos of diamond cut wheels?

Many thanks and happy new year to all McLaren owners and future owners :)

Chris, I am pretty sure that the wheel being ordered is as below. It is a version of the Superlight forged wheel that has been diamond cut finished and painted gloss black on the inner edges (vs. matte black on the Stealth option wheels). This wheel was introduced with the McLaren Special Operations 12C (see link: http://www.classicdriver.com/uk/magazine/3300.asp?id=15324).

I am also interested in this wheel, but would like to hear about the durability of the finish, in addition to the price.

It is a McLaren Special Operations part that you will have to request from your dealer. It will likely have a meaningful price tag so you better love it.

Several more pics of the wheels in my Flickr gallery from the reveal in Monterey. Click below to access the rest.

The one thing I will say about them is that they make the wheels appear visually larger without any actual difference in size.

Given that observation it seems like there would also be a good market for diamond cut boxer shorts.
