Received my official e-mail informing me of 2 to 3 month delay' so that McLaren can enhance the product'.

I think this is good news as they win the time to modify assembly, components and finish, plus meet customer expectations regarding product performance in the wider sense.

Of course those of you with large collections will amuse yourselves bating around in whatever. My Morris Minor will have to make do.

When were you expecting delivery and when will it be now?

I'm in the same boat. Although when they originally told me December, my first thought was, "Ok, March."

Yes, expected. I have many scars from product development. There comes a time when you need to launch in the real World. I'm sure Mclaren have made a good decision.

I rang McLaren Manchester and they weren't aware of any such official delay - just the normal no comittment. My date was Q4 2011 now early expected to slip to 2012 - but I expect this to end up slipping further. I cannot understand why they don't know when my car will be ready when I was given a date of Nov/Dec in march this year. Surely McLaren being the most thorough engineering / automotive firm there is should be able to give us some indication? They know how many cars they can build per month so surely it can be projected forwards and a more definitive delivery schedule given to their customers?
The experience so far does seem to be losing its appeal. Why the lack of information?

I think the iris issue came up in april, hence everyone has had a 3 month delay, maybe they thought they could catch up,but now realise they cant, frustrating but really worth the wait.

I actually think McLaren are doing pretty well against a background of new car, new engineering, new equipment and new building with a new team. In business you would be considered Barmy/off your Rocker if you attempted all new.

A few weeks delay to improve the process and product is OK if demanding when you have such high expectations.

I still trust McLaren to get it right because that is a Big Brand Value for Ron and the Ronettes..........I trust them.......and the product will be worth the wait.

I gather there are proving to be some production scale problems at the MPC. The earliest production versions were essentially low volume cars made back at the MTC while the production facility ramps up. My best guess is that they are learning the growing pains of volume production, and likely can't keep the high extreme high quality found in the low number VP, PP, and early production cars. As such, it's delaying the rest of the cars. This would also explain why the problems they are encountering now (eg door sensors, etc) were not encountered during testing.

The wait isn't the problem its the lack of clear information regarding this that is frustrating.

I shouldn't be finding out information regarding delivery delays and production issues via a forum - someone at McLaren should be getting in touch to explain and advise when they do think my order will be fulfilled.

McLaren Manchester are doing a good job but my impression is that they are as much in the dark as we are.

I talked with one of the marketing girls at the MTC/MPC and she said solving the door problem was the cause of lost time but that is fixed along with some other minor but irritating issues and they expect production to now go back to full steam ahead ( must be looking at Hybrid versions then!). Very chipper about progress and improvements.

You know I wonder if things are so fast moving that communication suffers?

We will see but good news in my judgement.
