Mod=no warranty. Taste the soup first before adding salt and pepper.
This is not actually the case. The earlier post was accurate, they may deny a claim for a specific area if they seem any particular mod may have caused the failure, but the warranty is still in effect. A cat back exhaust is unlikely to be a problem for most warranty claims.

Accumulators are only covered on original warranty anyways. He will probably be screwed if he has leaky shocks or other suspension component issues with spring swap. Not sure how this will affect getting extended warranty moving forward if he wants.

What are your thoughts on 200 cell sport cats with an aftermarket exhaust in terms of the original warranty? Will the sport cats void anything?

I’m not sure if a new cat back system will give me the sound I want.

I asked my dealer in regards to this awhile ago, and it's just 1 sample dealer so take with grain of salt, exhaust he said they will usually not care. High flow cats they will inspect and dig. He's had pass. He's had warranty voids. He's also had aftermarket cats show any sign of breaking down, and they will blame the cat for any motor issue. Even though apparently mclaren cats fail fairly often per the forum.

I think it depends on who you ask, because I have seen different things posted here. Here is my question. Do you really want to take the chance? The 720S is amazing in stock form. Does 9.7 in the 1/4 and blisteringly fast laps around any road course you go to. With Harris driving, it was only 0.5sec slower than a P1 around a track. Do you really need more?

I am not looking for any performance gain. My
Interest in upgrading the exhaust is purely for the sound. My car has the standard exhaust, not the sport and I feel it is way too muffled for the beast of a car that is the 720s.

I’m not looking to shoot flames or have crazy pops, bangs and burbles. I just want a generally louder exhaust note…even louder than the OEM sport exhaust.

It's a gamble. Only you can determine whether that gamble is worth it or not, but you have enough people in here giving you advice, you should probably listen. You should also come to terms with the fact that depending on your luck, with McLaren, the exhaust can cause warranty denials, as can a lot of other mods that you'd have no issues with on other makes and models.

So I have a question as I get closer to pulling the trigger on a Mclaren - how do you validate the warranty that the dealer is providing? I've heard stories of Mclaren corporate not honoring cars when an ECU scan is performed and a past mod shows up. I'm currently looking at pre-owned cars at both Mclaren Boston and Philadelphia. Boston sells the cars as "Mclaren Qualified" meaning for a price you can warranty it while Philly includes a 1 year certified warranty in the price. Am I good just accepting the dealerships word and paperwork for the warranty or is there a process to confirm a vehicle is covered with the factory as part of the purchase process?

There's no way to tell for sure. Ask for something in writing from the dealer that the car is unmodified. The other thing to look at closely is the service paperwork, make sure it had all its annual oil changed done, and on time.

Dealers know more about a car if they originally sold it and serviced it . They sort of know their customers (they’ll know if it has been modified in this scenario) ….

From past postings on Mclife ; Boston and Washington DC/virginia used to modify the cars themselves (it was a service they provided).

Mac and dealers have really tried to clean this thing up and have become careful with the used cars and especially disclosing as much info as they can/know .

I had read somewhere that if you provide McLaren Corporate with the VIN they can tell you if it has been flagged or not, but maybe that is only for certain customers?
I think they will do this for prospective customers, but it's not 100% accurate because it's possible the car was modified without them knowing about it. I think if it's not flagged, the dealer says it not modified, the service history is complete, and the dealer is willing to CPO it, the car is a pretty safe bet.

Both Boston and Philly are two of the most reputable Mac dealers, so you can rest assured by taking them at their word if they offer you a warranty or say that the car is eligible for an extended warranty - the latter is pretty easy to check.

But, as someone who voluntarily eschewed the extended warranty option AND got my car serviced by Indy shops (which now makes it no longer eligible for future Mac warranties), I wouldn't stress it too much. If you find a deal on a car outside of those dealerships, I would instead get a solid pre-purchase inspection, then set aside some funds for maintenance. Aside from being ridiculously expensive, the extended warranties feature a TON of exclusions - many of the issues that affect these cars (accumulators, battery problems, etc) are typically not covered.
