Hey Guys - Just realized that we have a Mclaren site! Andy C sent me a link and so I signed up.

I am on the list at Park Place in Dallas. Unfortunately I still don't have a clue what ext. colors/interior color to go with. I was going to go with Volcano Orange but a good friend of mine is getting it too. So I was a bit disappointed and thought I should pick another color. I was going to go with Mclaren Orange but it seems SO bright and showy(something I am not). But it is the official factory color.

Other than that - I was going to with superlight wheels in grey, CF interior, and sills(the comment about the sills looking like mouse fir made me cringe!), IRIS, orange stitching, and some seats - NO CLUE about it yet. Not decided if I want CF mirrors or not.

My friend is prolly going to keep the car less than 6 months and then flip it. So would you just get V.O. if you were in my seat?

Thanks.

Ritesh.

Volcano Orange doesn't really appeal to me personally. Plus I think McLaren's spray booth is going to develop a distinctly orange hue from all the cars that will be painted Volcano Orange and McLaren Orange and so I'd avoid the two colors for that simple fact.

I'd order the Azure Blue if I was in queue for one, but might be swayed by the British Racing Green as well. If you're not a color person, I think the 12C looks fantastic in silver too.

I think the MP12 is very colour sensitive in that some colours hide the lines/shape and others reveal the curves. I suspect highly reflective colours and finishes help.

I have seen a lot of the cars in the flesh and the VO reveals the curves as do many of the Silvers. The dark colours hide the shape.

The Blue is different but not to my taste.

I saw a 458 in White and it was very dramatic and showed the shape very well - yet to see a white MP12 or Volcanic Red.

If you have a HD tv and a Playstation with Gran Tourismo 5 then you can view all the colours in glorious HD.

Hi Ritesh, stick with your first choice! If your friend is going to flip you will have the last laugh anyway. The 12c will be alot rarer than any ferrari/lambo so whats he going to replace it with ?,and anything he does he will be bitterly disapointed with, also he will then be put at the back of any future list, so go for what you want.I spoke to the MTC and my dealer as i liked V O,luckily for me there are only a handful on order in the UK ,most people have ordered blacks and silvers with a few volcano reds,so see if you dealer can find out the colour preferences in the US?

Here is British Racing green (may be Photoshopped?) and I would have to say it looks good.
Yes - I made that in Pshop last August using a Volcano Orange photo. It's a bit on the dark side I think versus McLaren's actual color.

I also made this first image below (and 11 other variations) in Sept 2009 before any of the actual paint colors were announced or shown. It's another take on British Racing Green - something you'd find on an old Lotus perhaps, or maybe Kermit the Frog. :D

Below that are some real photos of an incomplete BRG 12C at the factory. Unfortunately once assembled this one was scheduled to be crashed so I've not seen any other pics yet. :(

I believe that the carbon sills are on the side, not the top, of the tub. The top of the tub is still covered in a carpet.

I believe this car has carbon sills. As you can see in the far left bottom of the pic the side of the sill is carbon and the top is carpet.

Get the color you want. IMO.

You are correct. Here's a slightly better image of one fitted with the carbon sills.

The actual color is very close to Aston's Pentland Green. A tad lighter, but with that same bluish "float" of a spruce-ish green.

Thanks guys - I finalized the details on saturday.

SPECS: Volcano Orange, Super light weight wheels in black, stock brakes with black calipers, CF sills, CF side view mirrors, CF interior, CF diffuser, stealth package, IRIS, orange stitching, standard seats in Space fabric orange.

Still undecided about the seats but I am trying to figure out how to best highlight M.O. in the interior without being way over the top and gaudy.

Also - I wanted M.O. calipers but I felt that it clashed too much with the V.O. exterior. What do you guys think?

Thanks for the help.

I think black calipers will work better for the volcano orange or maybe in Silver behind the black wheels?

Rest of the spec sounds great :)

I would not do MO calipers with VO paint either.

and I am confused about color choices, but still like the VO.

Both of these look good to me.

Spotted my first car today on A38 on way to Derby. It was black with orange bits on it. To me, it looked a real mess - almost a kit car version of 997 RS with the orange and black. I suppose it depends on your personal taste, I have a car on order for spring 2012 and it will be in a more 'cohesive' colour.....

I have to say that the Colour palette is rather limited - does it really cost that much to give a wider choice?

Are you saying it was a two tone car? Perhaps it had protective film on the paint.

The Volcanic Black has an Orange speck in the paint. My dealer thinks it is the Biz but I'm not sure. Dramatic for some, mouldy chocolate bar for others!

I agree that the colour palette is Ho Hum.

The Mcl Orange does it for me. Saw Manchester's demo in this colour coming off the production line at the MTC last month and it looked sensational. Maybe not a colour for a DD but it looks much more exotic than a red 458 IMHO...

Truth is - I'm haing a hard time finding photos in colors other than orange(s) or black. I did find some of white (in the build shop) - does anyone have a source for some photos in Volcano Red? ...or a shade of Blue?
