I originally placed my order during early April 2022. Thereafter, my order had to be redone because the (former) GM inputted it incorrectly (inconsistent with the build sheet provided to me). My revised order was VIN 10xx. That order went "in production" on or about November 3, 2022. Then, during December 2022, the entire model was delayed. I do not know how far along my car was at the time of the December 2022 delay.

Because of the December 2022 delay, I was allowed to change my spec without incurring any additional delays (beyond the overall delay). I placed that new order during December 2022 and, because it was a new spec, I was given a new order number.

The FOK for my new spec/order was originally March 20, 2023. Then, last month, I was advised that my FOK was pushed back to April 21, 2023. The VIN is 15xx.

With the various interruptions along the way, it appears that there is not an absolute correlation between order date and VIN number.

I received a VIN number on or before February 8, 2023 (I have a February 8 e-mail with a VIN number, but I do not know when it was assigned). My car did not go "in production" until five weeks later on or about March 13, 2023. If receipt of the carbon tub is the benchmark for "in production" status -- as stated by a Mod here a few years ago ( 600LT Coupe Builds Completed!!! ) -- than something else must trigger the assignment of a VIN number (or vice versa).
Good info and thanks! I am just trying to figure out why the mothership and seemingly every dealer (especially mine) is so tight lipped about production status, etc. Transparency would go more than 12 parsecs in goodwill if people knew what, where, when, and why. We do have the 'who.'

For context, my Artura order was placed July 2021, VIN 06XX. The vehicle supposedly landed in Baltimore November 2022, but was recalled and shipped back to Woking. I've just been told my production slot is frozen with production completion date expected May 26th. June delivery. No VIN yet, which also suggests a completely new build.

Got my Artura this evening. It's REALLY FUN!! Mine came with both the 12V and the HV batteries depleted (I think the truck driver kept the key too close to the car for several days so it never shut down properly - he definitely didn't lock it which doesn't help either) so we had to jump start it with a portable power supply which wasn't a big deal. Once we got it fired up I used the gas engine to charge the 12V and the HV batteries. With a depleted HV battery it wouldn't go into reverse because reverse is electric only so I had to run the engine for a few minutes on the truck before we could back it off. After that it drove beautifully and over the next three hours I drove it non-stop except for a few minutes stop near the end to top up the gas tank. During that time the car completely charged the HV battery (track mode is the most aggressive charging) and toward the end of the drive I drove it on electric for about 10 miles home and plugged it in for the night. The display said 7 hours to charge (from about 5 miles remaining on the HV battery or roughly 35% charge) to full using the included household current charger on a standard 3 prong outlet. Tomorrow I'll drive it on electric a bunch more and then see how fast the 48A charger I use for my Tesla and Taycan will charge it up. I suspect that won't take long at all.

The dash and infotainment displays in the Artura are the best McLaren has done yet. Everything is very responsive. But having CarPlay is wonderful and the Artura is the first car I've seen that uses portrait orientation for CarPlay on the central infotainment touch screen which makes it even better - VASTLY superior to the absolutely hideous way Ferrari has implemented CarPlay on their vehicles. There is one mistake McLaren need to fix. As with all McLarens the left lower stalk is used to cycle through a menu of vehicle functions display on the left side of the driver display. However when you're on a phone call the ONLY thing you can do with that stalk is end the call. It is not possible to access information about the car (tire pressure, see charging mode for the HV battery, service messages, trip computer, etc.) while you're on a phone call! At first I thought this was a by-product of CarPlay but when I disconnected the phone and used regular Bluetooth it still happens! This is REALLY ANNOYING and they need to fix this right away. How somebody even signed off on the car with this functionality is beyond my comprehension. Luckily that's about the only thing I can find wrong with the car and I suspect they can fix it with an OTA update which apparently the car can do.

But dynamically it's an absolute delight to drive. The new Clubsport seats are super comfortable - 3 hours of driving went by like nothing. The new 8 speed transmission is excellent. The suspension feels great. The car seems to get the various performance modes (Comfort, Sport, Track) to feel exactly as you hope they'd feel in terms of gear selection, how quickly it up/downshifts and level of aggression. The steering feel is typical amazing McLaren steering feel. The adaptive cruise control and lane keeping warning are great. The adaptive headlights are fantastic and work as expected. The headlights in general are the best yet in a McLaren. I wasn't able to push it super hard (still running in) but it definitely feels like it's got plenty of performance on tap. Brakes are great. AC works like a charm and the vents are oriented so you can get the cool air to blow on your face (amazing how many manufacturers screw that up). The interior design is very nice. Far more conservative than 570S but I mean that in the best possible way - it's the way it should be now. There's finally a dedicated dash button for front lift. It even claims 340 miles on a full tank of gas which, if true, would make it the longest range McLaren yet! The Bowers and Wilkins sound system is amazing and it feels like it's got more power than past McLarens where I've always wanted the volume to be closer to max volume than was is needed in the Artura. The real test for the B&W will be driving the Artura spider with the top down but that's a future thing. It drives beautifully in electric mode and it definitely feels a lot faster than the P1 in electric mode plus it gets 19 miles compared to maybe 4 miles of electric for the P1. The P1 used a super heavy and expensive dedicated charger. The Artura uses a nice, small, industry standard J1772 charger. Unless you're really planning to drive it a lot on electric you probably don't need to plug it in very often or even at all. It seemed to take less than 2 hours to charge the car from 12% to 100% while driving on normal city streets and highways.

The V6 hybrid is definitely a great setup. I like how they car starts up in electric mode so you're not blasting everyone in your neighborhood when you leave unless you choose to. It's really nice to come home on electric as well and fantastic to be able to move it around the garage without having to start the gas engine at all. But the real point of the hybridization is how the electric motor adds to the performance of the car in a very seamless way that makes it feel less like a turbo supercar and more like a naturally-aspirated supercar. It's just lovely.

I've owned pretty much all the modern McLaren's and this one feels like their best resolved car yet. Way to go McLaren! I really love my Artura and it was totally worth the wait!!

Congrads! So exciting! When did you order it and what color and specs? I can't wait to get mine and compare it to my 600LT.

So at this point, we should be getting 2024 models? If they hit me with another price increase like they did from 2022 to 2023, I'm going to be pissed.

Great review! How's the exhaust sounds? Sport exhaust or no?

Yes to sports exhaust. Sounds great from inside the car - have not heard it from outside the car.

In Comfort mode, when driving in a more relaxed way, the car often leaves stop signs and traffic lights purely under electric power unless you're really pushing it. You get a nice "vroom" sound when the internal combustion engine fires up. There's a little lag from when you press the pedal until the time you get the full power of the car so if you want to leave stop signs and red lights with gusto just use Sport mode instead. But I'm really liking the way Comfort mode mixes the electric and gas. Electric mode is so nice for quietly navigating around driveways and parking lots - it's a real game changer that makes the car so much more livable for those moments when you want a quiet supercar. P1 has an electric mode but it wouldn't engage until the internal combustion engine was used for a while which made it fine for coming home in electric mode but you couldn't depart, or start up the car, in electric mode. This car has no such restrictions. It wants to start in electric mode anyway which is fantastic.

Didn't get around to trying the Level 2 charger today. So far the Level 1 (regular household) is more than adequate. I drove it another hour or more today. The car maintains the HV battery just fine when you're driving even when you mix it up a bunch between the different modes.

I'll check the software revision. Despite the empty battery drama when car arrived on the truck yesterday, it's been 100% solid today with everything working exactly as expected. Car is just so lovely! Have a 200 mile / 4 hour drive to do on Thursday and I'm very much looking forward to it!

Are you going to do anything particular for engine break in?

Does the Artura come with a level 2 capable charger, such that you can do level 2 charging with the OEM equipment if you have the requisite 220 outlet? Or, is the included charger only capable of level 1 charging, even if plugged into a 220 outlet?

The FOK for my new spec/order was originally March 20, 2023. Then, last month, I was advised that my FOK was pushed back to April 21, 2023. The VIN is 15xx.
I've resisted posting but for what it's worth, I placed my deposit in early February of 2021. Honestly, it's hard to really know if my original vehicle (#331) ever made it to the US but I have to assume it did considering the original delivery was due summer of 2021. The Dealer is pretty disorganized. Delays, delays, delays and then word about the issue at year-end 2022. I too know what it really was but despite the secrecy, it doesn't really matter... just an issue with the powertrain and they presumably did the right thing for proper longevity.

My latest info is a VIN in the 15xx range and delayed completion date of 25-Apr next month. They are honoring the original MSRP which is probably no small amount and have offered some goodwill but I'm not sure what to do with that. I traded my 570S in May of 2021 so this has been a long wait.

Is everyone who ordered a 2022 model getting the 2022 MSRP for their 2023 (or potentially 2024 model) or is that something they did special for you? Thanks for your input!
