Anybody else worried about the state of McLaren as a company and the effect the debt/working capital issues are affecting Artura production? I know we are all pulling for McLaren but this is a bit troubling. I have heard rumors that Mercedes has held discussions about buying them out. Supercar Maker McLaren Under Further Financial Pressure, Despite $279 Million Support From Bahrain
My guess is that this is one of the drivers behind Brown's strong push to increase the value of the brand. It's difficult to see what Mercedes would get from the deal. Unless the brand is worth something to somebody, I think there's a risk that the road car business goes tits up.

I disagree. What's the big deal? Giving a customer a concession on their new car that they've been waiting for for years now. And let's face it - $7k of concessions on a car with the margins that this car must have - should barely put a dent in the profitability of the sale. Makes a ton of sense to me.
I think it was just a gesture of sorry they delayed it again. After my original build made it to the states and got shipped back, I was mostly assured a Feb or mid-March delivery. Telling me July to August now was pretty harsh. I will say McLaren corporate in the USA (out of Houston) is very responsive and professional.

Good for you, glad they're doing the right thing for you. I'm in my first McLaren (a 2019 570S Spider) which is a joy to drive a treat to own. Hang in there and try to stay patient. I think you'll find it's worth it in the end. But I can certainly understand the frustration of multiple delays, especially when the car was so close to getting delivered. Good luck!

They didn't give away $7k from goodwill.

I get the $4k off the price. What sort of dealer accessories were included? When was your order placed, and did you have to raise the issue yourself, or was this dealt with as a proactive measure by McLaren?
I raised the issue directly with McLaren corporate. McLaren Dallas hasn't shown any sympathy and hasn't kept me updated. I placed my order with deposit Aug 2021. Here is the exact quote:

Per our conversation earlier, McLaren is providing $3,000 to be applied towards any McLaren accessories, installation labor, and/or any clothing you would like. I’ve attached our Artura accessories brochure for your review.

My Artura is now officially "in production." The FOK date remains April 21. VIN is 15xx.

Given the April 21 FOK date, I did not expect production to commence for another few weeks. Does this mean my car is ahead of schedule? How long does it take for McLaren to produce an Artura?

Does "in production" actually mean that production has commenced," or does some other benchmark trigger "in production" status before production is actually commenced? I read that, with prior models, "in production" referred to Woking's receipt of the carbon tub designated for the particular VIN, as opposed to the commencement of production. Is that accurate?

After "in production," what are the next status updates in the process and what do they mean? Are there updates for the completion of production, on a vessel, at the port, etc.?

Nice! When did you put down your deposit?

Given his VIN range, Order would have been placed late May 2022 or very early June. From my understanding the in production means tub baked and ready for putting together for parts. Can’t have a VIN without the tub. Those with more knowledge can be more specific

Mine is/was SBM16XXX, deposit Aug 2021. Unfortunatly I was one of the unlucky orders that were recalled. McLaren said they would re-use the VIN on the new build, but they also said they would put the recall builds ahead of the later orders. Who knows. I guess that is why they gave me the 7K credit, but by the time I receive mine, these things might easily be 7K below MSRP on the secondary market.

I don't think they'll be just a bunch below MSRP for 'new' cars. There's solid demand for the car.

I think that the re-build cars were not necessarily placed ahead of every later-order car. The math doesn't work out for that to be the case.

I originally placed my order during early April 2022. Thereafter, my order had to be redone because the (former) GM inputted it incorrectly (inconsistent with the build sheet provided to me). My revised order was VIN 10xx. That order went "in production" on or about November 3, 2022. Then, during December 2022, the entire model was delayed. I do not know how far along my car was at the time of the December 2022 delay.

Because of the December 2022 delay, I was allowed to change my spec without incurring any additional delays (beyond the overall delay). I placed that new order during December 2022 and, because it was a new spec, I was given a new order number.

The FOK for my new spec/order was originally March 20, 2023. Then, last month, I was advised that my FOK was pushed back to April 21, 2023. The VIN is 15xx.

With the various interruptions along the way, it appears that there is not an absolute correlation between order date and VIN number.

I received a VIN number on or before February 8, 2023 (I have a February 8 e-mail with a VIN number, but I do not know when it was assigned). My car did not go "in production" until five weeks later on or about March 13, 2023. If receipt of the carbon tub is the benchmark for "in production" status -- as stated by a Mod here a few years ago ( 600LT Coupe Builds Completed!!! ) -- than something else must trigger the assignment of a VIN number (or vice versa).
