Artura broke after two miles.

Finally took delivery of my long awaited Artura two days ago. I made it exactly two, yes two, miles before it spat codes and stranded me on the side of the road. Transmission fault. That works out to $135,000 per mile. 🎉 Now it’s going on a truck back to the dealer.

I am now hearing that possibly 50% of delivered cars are undrivable. One owner got two and lemon law’d both! Ooph.

Feels bad man. Yay McLaren.

So sorry to hear that man. Both for you individually and if it’s true that there are that many coming not solid. The delay was to help them come in solid. Please share what the dealer finds wrong with it. Hope it’s some minor and easy to fix glitch.

Thank you. I was pretty bummed out. I’m a car guy and this was my biggest car purchase ever. I was super jazzed to take the car for a spin. The high, then the low. My wife was super impressed too when I told her I was stuck on the side of the road already in my “fancy new car I had to have.”Just imagine…

I will update when I know more.

Embarrassing is what it is. Presumably the dealers are driving them before handing them over??

Damn, I had no clue it was so bad. Mclaren had one shot at fixing their reliability reputation and they blew it. This might honestly be it. I don't see many people in the future taking chances with their cars now that a completely wave of buyers are gonna experience the exact same thing.

The car came to me with 45 miles on the clock. They say they went through it and it was fine. 🙄 What I did not say in the short post, was that after leaving the car alone for an hour I was able to get it moving but with just the electric motor. That got the car to my house, two miles away. Later on it showed no codes, started fine and even went into gear. So, I left it on the trickle charger for the night. The next morning I went out in it again. Everything seemed fine. This time I made it a full three miles before I got the tranny fault again! This time I barely made it home. It leaves for the shop at 8am tomorrow. I have heard from two credible guys that sadly, this is the norm with the Artura. Good times!!

Man I could tell some stories but won’t. Other that some do, some say they do…

That is good news!

Someone else had something similar. It seems the main battery/system needs to go through a whole cycle charge kind of reset thing and it’s fine afterwards. I suspect it’s an initialization of sorts.

And it’s kind of good news in that the person that reported it says it only happened that first time getting it home and never since.

I forget where that post is, if I find it I’ll link to it. I think it was @MarkNC that reported a similar experience, but could be misremembering.

Ah, well sorry to hear and hope it turns out something minor.

First of all sorry for the trouble that you are having. Second, its likely (hopefully) a quick software fix as most of these issues with Mclaren are. Very possible its a battery issue. Was the car charged fully? Ive had an issue with my 765 where if Im not driving it regularly and its off the charger, it tends to freak out. Hopefully that is all it is.

Finally, Im not sure where you are getting the 50% underivable number but I have not heard that. Id be careful generalizing from personal experiences like this. There may be an issue here or there and regardless its unacceptable and for sure not a great intro to the brand but 50% underivable? Hard to believe.
How do you make the past reputation better?
Make your new cars worse so everyone can say how good it was back then.
I jest
Good luck with your newly acquired mclaren
I hope for a speedy solution and this is in the rear view mirror

Very sorry to hear this OP. Very off putting news. McLaren cannot shake their reputation problems.

Without getting into details, this ^^^. Not surprisingly, McLaren is on top of it and the update is right around the corner.

Separately, again without getting into details, the notion that "50% are undriveable" is, euphemistically speaking, not accurate.

@Maniac71 : I hope and expect that McLaren will take care of you and quickly resolve the issue. Please keep us updated (pun intended).

Here, think I found it here:

Relevant part here:
"Got my Artura this evening. It's REALLY FUN!! Mine came with both the 12V and the HV batteries depleted (I think the truck driver kept the key too close to the car for several days so it never shut down properly - he definitely didn't lock it which doesn't help either) so we had to jump start it with a portable power supply which wasn't a big deal. Once we got it fired up I used the gas engine to charge the 12V and the HV batteries. With a depleted HV battery it wouldn't go into reverse because reverse is electric only so I had to run the engine for a few minutes on the truck before we could back it off. After that it drove beautifully and over the next three hours I drove it non-stop except for a few minutes stop near the end to top up the gas tank. During that time the car completely charged the HV battery (track mode is the most aggressive charging) and toward the end of the drive I drove it on electric for about 10 miles home and plugged it in for the night. The display said 7 hours to charge (from about 5 miles remaining on the HV battery or roughly 35% charge) to full using the included household current charger on a standard 3 prong outlet. Tomorrow I'll drive it on electric a bunch more and then see how fast the 48A charger I use for my Tesla and Taycan will charge it up. I suspect that won't take long at all. "

Hoping it's similar and minor and not too different from the above.

EDIT: I think I was thinking of something else other than the above (which just seems like a depleted battery). I could swear I recall reading about some initial glitch, but I may well be misremembering. Sorry couldn't be more helpful. :/

My question is where you’d be hearing that 50% are undriveable. Fewer than 1000 have been delivered. Was it your dealer that said that?

Its been known for some time that there are still many issues with the Artura. A friend of mine who is in service told me NOT to buy one now as there are too many problems. Wait for year 2 I was told.
I can’t even imagine how it must feel to spend so much and wait so long for a car to break after 2 miles. I’m sorry.

"50% of cars delivered are undrivable" I'm sorry for your problem but I am having a hard time believing this statement.
