Hi all,
This is my first post here. I own a 458 Italia but enjoy coming here to learn about other great cars and to listen to others share their experiences with the 12C. Anyway I'm trying to see if there are any McLarens in the Austin area for two reasons:

1) I just learned that the "Sunshine Kids Cruise to the Capital" has started looking for cars for this years event. The "Cruise to the Capital" event gathers up a number of the "hottest and fastest" cars to take 30 - 50 kids with cancer on a "wild cruise" to the Texas state capital. I volunteered and hope to be included in this event and think it would be great to have an MP4-12C involved as well. More information about the "Sunshine Kids Cruise to the Capital" is available at: http://www.showcars4kids.com/sunshine.asp

2) For the past three years the Austin Cars and Coffee event has been held in Leander, just north of Austin. A couple months ago the official Cars and Coffee event moved into Austin at the Oasis but the Leander Car Show continues the first Sunday of each month. I am usually the only Ferrari there and only once in the past 6 months have I seen a McLaren. If there are any owners in central Texas, it would be great if y'all could attend. The Leander Car Show is a great small town event that often supports a charitable cause each month and you gotta love the look on the kids faces when they see cars such as ours.

Anyway I thought I would give a shout out to y'all in the hopes of seeing more 12C's at these events.

Disclaimer/Disclosure: I have no special interest in either the "Cruise to the Capital" or the "Leander Car Show" other than being a sorta regular participant and a fan of cool cars.

jazztrip - Welcome and thanks for the post. I am 900 miles away, so I cannot attend, but it sounds like a great event. It is wonderful that you share your cars with these kids. There are a fair number of Texas people on this forum and I recall seeing some great COTA footage from a member, so I hope you get a good turn out. All the best...

I'm in Houston but get to Austin some times (we have a place in the Hill Country). There's at least three 12Cs in Austin, and I'm sure Ritesh' Osiris at al will respond shortly

jazztrip, welcome aboard! Great conversations here w/ a great bunch! :D

I believe there are (at least? at'most?) about 2-3 or so 12Cs in'towne. Not sure if they're here year-round, but the owners are Austin residents. Another owner Ritesh, as mentioned by texas mongrol, is from the Tyler area of Northern Texas & has visited here w/ his 12C a few times.

The Leander Town Center (and now Oasis) Austin Cars-&-Coffee meets are a fun time, there's such a wide variety of what will show-up en'masse... from classic & vintage to muscle & drag to exotic & hyper to ultra-lux & limited! It's 2nd Sunday of every month, I believe 10am to 1pm.

Also, there are (2) F1 watch-parties afterwards; one in downtown (SixLounge, among other spots), another one now at the Oasis (formerly used to be at Cool River). John Eagle European is the lead sponsor (and name-bearer) of the C-&-C & F1 viewing events at the Oasis, the downtown-area viewing get'together is an Austin-GP entity.

Most of the Ferrari owners are active w/ their local/regional Ferrari club & relevant events. A lot of the other crowd gets together w/ NCCA (Non-Club Club of Austin) here & there.

There's a Hill Country Drives group that does monthly/seasonal drives, good mashup of sporting cars & a nice scenic drive in the countryside.

The Sunshine Kids group-drive to the Capitol is a very neat event. I've done it a few times over the years. It's a bit of a time commitment, so I haven't been able to do it regularly. There's a meetup in S. Austin early in the morning, then a group-drive down to New Braunfels. There's a photo-op & impromptu car-show w/ the kids at their summer-camp. Then, there is a full police-escort on the drive back on I-35N thru S. Congress onto the Capitol. Yups! The rest of the day is a tour of the Capitol by a Texas legislator, and lunch w/ the kids & families. All-in-all, a very cool time.

Heya Jazztrip...

I had the Orange 12C at Coffee and Cars. I live in central Austin and daily drive her. Would love to get involved with showcarsforkids. Just let me know when and how.

There are a few cars coming in prior to F1 and we were thinking of doing the twisted sisters for those of you not afraid to throw some miles on your cars. Send me a private message if interested.

If any of you have Suite tickets for Turn 18 I will be there or Turn 1 :)

snowhorn, great to hear from you.

I don't get to Cars and Coffee at the Oasis much so I don't think I've seen your car. I usually do the Leander Car Show on the first Sunday of the month. Any chance we could get you out there sometime? We don't see many/any 12c's out north here and I'm sure it would be a hit at the show.

I really need to get you in the Sweet Rides of Central Texas car club. https://www.facebook.com/groups/SWEETRIDES/

Sweet Rides is a bunch of great folks with nice cars. The organizers of this group are always finding and organizing charity/benefit cruises and car shows. We did the Sunshine Kids Cruise to the Capital this past June and are doing a cruise to Bandera Texas this Saturday for the benefit of wounded soldiers recovering nearby.
see: https://www.facebook.com/events/437256569722395/?ref=4
and: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nfdm1oon5mU&feature=youtu.be

These are great experiences and really puts thing in perspective.

Anyway, hopefully we will be able to meet someday and swap car stories and enjoy some cruises together.

Regards,
Joe

We have quite a group in Texas. I am in Tyler but I drivre my car to Houston, Dallas, Austin quite frequently.

I was at the Leander C&C in July/2012. Is it catching on? It seemed a bit "weak" for such a great car community.

Ritesh, yes the Leander Car Show gets a good turnout each month. Not the 200+ cars that the Oasis C&C gets, but certainly enough to give attendees plenty to look at. I think in the mid 2012 time-frame, the show was still suffering from the break-up with the official C&C folks who ended up leaving and starting anew at the Oasis. Good on them.

The Leander Car Show is more of a small town atmosphere and since Sep 2012 when I first started attending, it has grown in cars and expanded into more space. You will find a section for your standard American brands (Ford, Chevy, Mopar) plus lot's of street rods and old school American muscle. Not many exotics (I'm often the only Ferrari there, sometimes one or two more) a Fisker, some Lotuses, some classics etc.

I've seen one 12C in the time I've been going but did not get a chance to visit with it's owner. Would love to see more at the Show and I'm certain the community would love it too.

Anyway, I'm not here to sell the Leander Car Show, but am a happy attendee and would welcome any/all other car lovers to participate.

Apologies for disrupting - will be at COTA in Feb and back again in March.

Any info on where I can store a car and trailer for 2 weeks?

Champagne, I think FChat is not your favorite place, but you might get some leads in the Texas(AUS) section.

I'll poke around a bit and see if I can find a place.

Thank You!

Attended a few Vegas trips with fchat - lots of really good people over there.

Luckily my whole region switched to Ferrari Life.

I went to school in your town - a friend offered his driveway ... can't wait to get back.

MVP had a few open slots at COTA if you are interested - stop by for CCR March 1.
