In the follow up to the MP4-12C, 458, Noble, etc, testing, Nick Trott says more than once that a follow-up test with customer cars will happen:

http://community.evo.co.uk/forums/thread.cfm?threadID=66482&startRow=0

So, did it happen and what were the results? If it didn't happen, why not?

There seemed to be some speculation (by EVO staff) that certain lap times may have been on the non-credible side, perhaps from both(all) manufacturers. Can somebody at EVO please respond?

One of EVO's contributors, Chris Harris, claimed that journalists are effectively under contract with Ferrari to not test and write about any customer car, or car that is not provided directly by Ferrari for the test. Is this the reason the customer car test was never done (or the results never published)?

Please provide some answers. It has been several months, so ample opportunities to contact customers to get cars for a test. If the test was never done, and you can still do it, please do so and I ask only one thing - put identical spec rubber on both cars and complete a thorough and fair test. Buy the tires for the participants as a thank-you for them letting you use the cars.

Both manufacturers need to be kept honest. Doing tests with customer cars is one way to do so and would have the additional benefit of being sound, interesting journalism.

Thank you!

I'l all for that. And if not identical rubber, just be sure both have fresh OEM tires of the same caliber (i.e., Corsa v Corsa or Normal v Normal)...
In my opinion, that is part of the problem. Tire debates are endless - you'll never get consensus unless you use the exact same tires, size availability permitting.

michelin pilot supersport are equivalent to the corsa tyres

then you ve got pilot sport cup vs p0 trofeo or R888 Toyo

just remember the mp4 is only fitted with "normal" p0 as standard (not possible to have the corsa without a set of wheels)

i think it is good to end the debate of the performance of the car.

we have several tests saying yes the mp4 is globally faster around a track than the 458

and yes perhaps not as much as we have expected at first.

problems of tyres, problems of moded car etc...
the "image" of mclaren and the fact the car is as quick as the ferrari is enough for me to prefer significantly the mp4 (and it's obviously not the only points)

I agree with the tyres. I know some of the bike magazines put all there test bikes on the same rubber for that reason. The difference between a set of Corsa's and say a Mich PS2 is huge, in both grip and ride quality
