Can it be manually locked into the "down" position?
Havent found anything in the manual that says so.you cannot have the aero mode on unless you have the active button pressed.
The whole car is set up for using the airbrake, when i overheated the gearbox and the hydralics went into safety mode not letting the airbrake to be used untill it all cooled down,i didnt feel as confidant in the braking, mainly because i had got used to there stopping power.

How'd you overheat the gearbox Andy?
after my running in period i wanted to try the launch, unfortunatly the launch was not talking to the gearbox, even though it came up lauch on the dash,so by the time i had 1500 rpm on the clock it was pulling badly against the brakes,so i aborted and then it said the gearbox had overheated and to let it cool down, this inturn stops the airbrake from working as linked, all is well now ,but Mclaren are taking the car in tmw to re -programme it so i can use the launch

Oof. That's a bit worrisome.
first adopters car???Im not worried, gearbox is fine, and the customer service is great,we maybe didnt expect these early problems, but the hardware seems bombproof (famous last words)it just these electical glitchs that are causing everyones problems, some will find them irritating, but no major mechanical breakdowns as far as i know. And the car is so awesome on the road i can live with them.
Off out for another paper!

The London demo car has done 11000 miles and never let them down, OK digital glitches are being fixed.

Most owners will not achieve 11,000 miles in 3 years, but the power train seems robust........at the moment......

Not sure that will be true about the average milage,i think most owners wont be able to keep out of it,there seems to be no downside for a DD,except school runs, and going to the tip!!!!!
i wonder if it says in the manual that there is no provision for the fitting of a tow bar,ala Aston martin???? i must look!!!

I put serious mileage on my cars - average 18K miles/year in my Porsche. I hope to do the same in the McLaren. If I wanted a garage queen, I'd have bought a Ferrari. (I kid... I kid...)

Actually one of the best lines ive ever read in a drivers manual,it was under towbar, and i cant rememeber the actual words ,but the guy who wrote it must have had the proverbial english plumb in his mouth, how dare you ask such a question,Towbar on an Aston Martin, what are servents for!!
