How can this be accurate? We all know the final drive of the 765LT is 15% shorter than the 720S and the Senna, and that the top speed of 765LT is 205 MPH in 7th gear, not 212 MPH in 6th.

Copy-paste error?

It's right from the owner's manuals. Google mclaren owners manual. I was fairly careful to make sure I didn't make copy/paste error from the 3 manuals.

It's in the Vehicle Data and Glossary section of the respective owner's manual.

Looks to me like a copy paste error in the owners manual ...

The owners manual online and what was included in my car is from the 720s which probably explains that. Did anyone get a unique owners manual for the 765lt?

I just checked the Euro English online manual, same error, they have the 720S Spider in the same manual so I they are just using its numbers and don't produce and different gear ratio numbers or speeds for the 765

Yes and from your earlier post .... :)
Yeah, we are going round in circles, as they say it is what it is and Mclaren just changed the final drive and as one of their guys effused in one of the briefings " we didn't even do this in the Senna" ie they think it's a big deal.

BTW I put in the accurate gear ratios from the 720S (that someone posted here) together with a 15% higher FD @ 3.804 (I'm not saying this is the right number, I just added 15% to the standard 3.308 final drive) and the revs in 7th at 205mph are 6613rpm FWIW.

Wouldn’t just be the axel/pinion swap, or whatever the equivalent is in an “open” differential?

Was thinking whole transmission and gear shift control unit from 765LT. I suspect that the rear drive gear and drive shaft connections have been made stronger in the 765LT.

Many years ago we use to select and change the rear drive ratio in the Hewland transaxle at the track. :)

Talking about Sernna/765LT what do we think the reason was for not equipping the 765LT with a 315 rear tyre like on the Senna, can't see any downsides with that, any thoughts ?

pure speculation: maybe they were lazy and wanted to take over the suspension setup from 720s without changing more ... Senna with the active front aero afaik has a different system

It is due to the downforce levels of the cars. They needed a higher load-capable tire to handle the extra downforce of Senna, which produces >2x the downforce as 765LT and so much, in fact, that it needs to bleed off some at speed to prevent the car from damaging itself.

765 has Trofeo load rating 103 which is 875kg, Senna has Trofeo load rating 104 which is 900kg

That's 50kg extra between the two, not much at all, did you get that info from Mclaren ?

My contacts within McLaren, yes. When you have margin requirements for safety, they can force engineering decisions like the tire size. Doesn't matter if it is "close." You need to maintain the margin.
