Same reason Porsche hasn't made a faster Cayman than 911 even though they easily could...
mclarens history in the former super series category was that each subsequent model was faster then the previous one . It was usually incremental until 720 annihilated 675 . Then it went back to incremental with 765 . The 750 will be the first one that will be a little slower then the previous model (765). I haven’t heard one sales person or mclaren personnel say that 750 will be faster than 765.

I had 765 and getting 750. I know many others who are adding 750 to go along with 765 and many others who had a 765 previously who are getting 750.

most supercar owners don’t look at upgrading decisions with supercars like they do with regular everyday cars . (Ie; is it better then what I currently have).

Right, my response was to the person asking why not make it faster "just because they can". Just because you CAN do something doesn't mean it fits into the intended hierarchy or where the model is positioned.

The Super Series history you outlined is a good perspective but I don't see the 750 as a true "subsequent model" i.e. new model over the 765LT. Instead I see it as a 720.2 - based on everything I've been told.

yeah . True replacement is two years away . For all intents and purposes the 12c/650/675 was the same model . 720/765 and 750 will generally be the same way (substantial difference in 750 will be the interior )

@unmac posts on this topic are spot on.

For some people the 750 will be 'better' in that it'll be more comfortable as a daily driver and have updated electronics that many people want (car play etc.).

The only comment I'll make is that McLaren is acutely aware that this car will directly compete with the 296GTB which is no slouch...So, performance wise, don't be surprised if there is almost nothing between the 750/765 (not on track). By the end of the year I'm sure Brooks @fiksegts will put them side by side on the strip. Don't be surprised if...

I'm anxious to see it, the 720 will be hard to top and woking will need to improve on it to get us to part with our money, duh.

I know they won't disappoint and I'll gladly open my cheque book to get one.

Us middle aged old farts need to get our kicks somehow and these beautiful machines do it for me.

750 is going to be great, but all I know is Mclaren better come out with the super series hybrid replacement soon. Lambo will have its V12 and V10 hybrids, Ferrari will have its V8 and V6 hybrids. And Mclaren is still going to be on the old 720 platform for the next 2-3 years? Just a wild thought, Mclarens super series hybrid replacement comes with the V10 from the Solus and they make it a hybrid. They already invested millions and millions of $$ into designing the V10 for the Solus. And to only make 25 of them? I think Mclaren is up to something 😎

given how much ppl seem to like ICE over Hybrids I would even guess that this would be an advantage

The V10 is an off-the-shelf racing engine from Judd, though. They didn't invest any money into developing it. And either way you couldn't make it pass emissions, so there is no chance it's ever gonna end up in a road car. Sad to say.

If Lambo can make a massive V12 pass emissions, I’m sure Mclaren could figure out a way to make the V10 pass emissions haha. Anyways it was just a fun thought. Since Judd already has the motor made, Mclaren could save money developing a whole brand new motor and just use that one and spend the money making it a hybrid. You get a V10 that revs to 10,000 RPM and has a hybrid set up on it. Everybody is happy 😎

Unfortunately that's not how it works. The Lambo V12, or the Corsworth V12s were designed to be emissions compliant from the start. Getting an LMP1 racing engine emission compliant after the fact would be so much work that you might as well develop a new engine from scratch. Also, service intervals on the Judd engine are 3000km. It would be very hard to get to even 30000km and almost certainly impossible to get 100kkm or something actually road worthy.

In addition to the above, Lambo cannot in fact keep their v12 emissions compliant which is why they’re going hybrid. Ferrari probably isn’t far behind, although I can’t keep up with the state of exemptions for “small” manufacturers approved and denied.
