Spoke with a sales person and he told me the spider will be presented in October and on sale next year. I was surprised since I thought it was several years off, have anyone else gotten the same information from McLaren?
And that's the great thing about this model. With the P11 series of cars it felt that once the Spider was released that the coupe almost became redundant (unless you were specifically a coupe guy), but with this model, even when the spider is released, I imagine there will be benefits and reasons to still have the coupe e.g. the roof being part of the door etc.there will be far more substantive changes to the design compared with the 12C/650S, 675LT, and 570S.

Monocage IIagree and full carbon tub on coupe ??
I'm in the same boat. Will likely pass on the 720S Spider but depending on how it looks, might opt for the 750LT Spider over the coupe.Deliveries for the coupe began in mid-2017, so expect mid-2019 for spider deliveries. I would have thought it would have been introduced at Geneva in the months before, but maybe McLaren will start releasing teasers this fall or even show a pre-production car in Frankfurt.
I have no plans on getting the spider but am very interested in seeing how McLaren designs it - there will be far more substantive changes to the design compared with the 12C/650S, 675LT, and 570S.
another Plus for the Coupe is the clean(er) lines. So what do people think will be the advantage of the coupe. I am a coupe guy.
Pluses for the Coupe:
- Coupe has a cage instead of just a tub. So some added safety if you ever flip it.
- Entry/Exit is a little easier with carve out roof, but then again, if you have the spider, with the roof down entry/exit is pretty easy.
- Glass roof (assuming they ever fix it so it stops cracking) is a nice option on the coupe for those that like it.
- Storage should be much better in the coupe, it being basically a GT.
- Little bit lighter.
- Cheaper.
Pluses for the Spider:
- Top up/down is generally a good thing.
- Rigidity, really unlikely to be meaningfully worse.
- Potential for more viewable engine bay.
Nothing else is jumping to mind? What else do you think will be the differences?
You know it's funny, I was thinking this would be possible but it was in the "make believe land" of thought. Yea, if they put a glass roof on the spider, that would be awesome. Here's a curved ball for you!
I've heard whisperings there will be an option for a chromatic glass roof that folds on the spider!
Its not April 1st today is it?!?Here's a curved ball for you!
