This Saturday, Christine and I are finally going to line 'em up and give 'em the beans. Sacramento Dragstrip - Grudge Night. No factory special cars, no competition tires, no race fuel - stock vs stock. McLaren vs Ferrari. Twin Turbo vs Normally Aspirated. England vs Italy. Husband vs Wife.

Hope to meet a few of you there!

Just got home.

Short version: McLaren has a definite power advantage, Ferrari launches better. Both cars would benefit hugely from more traction.

Run 1: McLaren malfunctions mid-run (pcm failure, drive to dealer, etc) and Ferrari wins, pulling [email protected] in the 8th. I get on the phone, McLaren tech gives me reset instructions. Normalcy returns.
Run 2: no time slip, Ferrari loses traction on the 2-3 shift and backs out of the run.
Run 3: clean run, both cars have traction control lights on past 60mph. Neck and neck in the 8th with Ferrari turning [email protected] and the McLaren [email protected] McLaren powers through the big end to the win, [email protected] vs Ferrari's [email protected]
Run 4: sun has set, remaining traction goes away. Ferrari gets 2.2 60' and gets a little sideways midtrack (!!) , McLaren gets 2.3 60', short shifts to 2nd, hooks and runs [email protected]

At that point the Ferrari called it a day. McLaren did a few more passes with Launch Control enabled, best of [email protected]

Conclusion: on the street, 458 vs MP4 could go either way from a dig; from a roll the McLaren will gradually walk away.

Video to come after I get some sleep.

Cool vid, thanks for sharing. Looks like you guys had a hard time hooking up, in general.

Also, what instructions did the McLaren rep give you to reset the PCC fault?
Both cars spun through 1st gear, and the Ferrari also spun on the 1-2 and 2-3 shifts. The McLaren shifts are slower but less abrupt, which definitely helped on the 'strip where traction was limited.

To reset the fault: turn off engine, get out of the car, close the door, lock, wait for all the lights inside to go off. Restart car as normal.
