My 2023 Paris Blue 720s Spyder finally arrived this past week after 9 long months of waiting after I speced it.

Already bought @unobtaniumwelding exhaust system and put on alcantara/gloss carbon @Carismo_design steering wheel.

Super excited and already have 600 milles in one week of driving it.

Would love to know what you guys think of the spec and any ideas of what goodies to add is much appreciated. Looking to put some nice wheels on and maybe ryft kit or a Mansory kit just for the fuck of it.

I was told by the dealer that in 2023, Mclaren only gave 50 allocations to its dealers in North America and was also told I was given the only allocation from the dealer from which I bought from. Not sure how true that is, but if it is then that is great news for me. Not gonna say 1 of 50 just because the GM told me, but even if fewer production was made in 2023 I wont complain.

Congratulations on this beautiful 720S, very tasty. To answer your question, I'm on the "leave it alone, a 720S is such an extraordinary and impressive work of art that artificial surgery looks like unnecessary crap" team. Enjoy it!

Great Color and definitely one of the last 720s - haven't seen many 2023s..

Nice RR as well!

Also remember on exhaust and all that - once you do it, McLaren voids all warranty. They are super picky, unlike other brands (Lamborghini, Porsche, Ferrari).

Might want to check out Fchat. Ferrari is just as bad now.

I haven't been on F-Chat in a while - sorry to hear that. After my 5th Ferrari (My Last was a new F12 in 2014) - had so many problems with it, I sold it after 3 years and have pretty much sworn off the brand all together. How they treated the warranty work, and the amount of issues I had - I will likely not go back.

This is not strictly true. They may selectively decline certain warranty claims if they deem the modification to be potentially responsible for the failure. And cat back exhausts are unlikely to be an issue.

They have gotten very strict and it’s a big topic with the F8. A lot of people have had their warranties voided by changing the exhaust.

It’s a very tricky area of the law. I’ve handled a number of these cases and most of the time the manufacturer is successful. The argument is any modification that could potential cause damage could void the warranty. If you change any portion of the exhaust and have an engine issue it is an easy case to void the warranty. If you change the exhaust and have a suspension issue it is a little harder. The manufacturer would argue that the exhaust caused a higher output of the engine which put undue stress on the suspension and was related. Now if you change the exhaust and have an AC issue there would be no relation and it would be very difficult to void the warranty.

The problem for the consumer is proving their case and the cost associated with it. You would need to hire experts to prove the lack of relationship between the aftermarket part and the damage. The manufacturer will have engineers, experts and data to support their denial. It is an uphill battle and the consumer could easily spent 50-75k litigating the matter. There is very little consumer protection once you start altering/modifying a car.

Right, but I'm talking about the step before litigation, when the manufacturer decides whether or not to deny the claim. I don't recall reading about any examples here where an engine failure claim was denied for a cat back exhaust or a switch to an aftermarket braking system for example.

is that a McLaren service call or what if I can get them to not report and modifications once I service the car with them (I have a very good relationship with them)

To me 720 barely pops and cracks and I know thats not what the car is made for but to me it seems dimmed down and not loud at all. Is there some kind of break in service McLaren does after 1500 miles that makes car pop and crack more or was I just getting trolled by somebody? Car needs exhaust BAD

You were getting trolled. And from what I understand, McLaren is cracking down on all modified cars, so it is unlikely you would not be able to get around the voided warranty bit.

You don't like the fact that the car does not backfire? I had my wife in my AMG GTC which in sport mode "pops and cracks" quite a bit and she said I should take it to the dealer to get that fixed. It was not long ago that a backfiring car would produce a lemon law case. I love the tune that dumps raw fuel into the exhaust to produce that. Overheats the cats and destroys them.

I like the sound of the car as is, it is a missile. It sounds like a missile. I know I am in the minority.

you’re not in the minority . I think it’s the best sounding mclaren …. It gets real loud (when it should) and gets the jet sound when it’s at 100% throttle. Everyone’s heads start looking for the car at a race track when they hear that sound ….. it sounds fast when it’s going fast

I doubt that you are in the minority, I too love this unagitated, highly efficient sound. Freely according to the motto "complete focus on maximum efficiency". Cars with these "backfiring features" always give me the impression of wanting to be more than they are. A McLaren doesn't need these games. For me, this is a huge advantage of McLaren.

Count me in with the minority too. I like the sound of my 570 both inside & out. You're right, they sound more like a missile than an internal combustion engine.

Ready to kiss that warranty goodbye? Downpipes, with high flow cats (or none at all) radically change the sound of the exhaust on this platform, far more than switching out the backbox does. Change that and the car becomes a fire breathing dragon, literally.

That could be good with valves so you would have a choice. I did a ride from Miami to the Keys and back in a Huracan with pipes, it was very cool for 15 minutes and the next few hours were not so cool.
