I've not read it yet myself but it appears that they asked Harry Metcalfe to come and try some revisions to the car they have made in response to the reviews.

They've changed the weighting of the gearchange paddles, made it louder on the induction side in sport mode and provided better modulation for the brakes. They're also taking on board the "detached" handling comments and reviewing bush settings and steering pick up points.

While we are talking about updates, how about a wish list item?

Dear Woking,

I know you are reading this. The McLaren brand is best known for its F1 cars. Your road cars should remind us of that. Please make the sound for future cars sound less like American Muscle and more like the high pitched scream you get from a Ferrari F355 or a Carrera GT.

Oh and don't be afraid to inject some more flair in the styling.

That would make us very happy.

LOL! Dear McLaren - please don't do ANY of what 483hp says for MY 12C. If I wanted that, I'd have bought that. ;)

In all seriousness, I think it is very important for McLaren to stay true to their own interpretation of what a supercar should be. That is what has me slightly worried about these updates after journo reviews. I really hope they do not compromise their original vision, as in the long run that is what will differentiate McLaren. If they are good at it and buyers are attracted, they will succeed. The last thing we need is a carbon copy of Ferrari, with a different badge.

6th element. Couldn't agree more, lets have a McLaren and let it develope the McLaren way. Porsche is Porsche, Morgan is Morgan .......all do it there way and survive with distinct road and engineering characters as well as style/design DNA.

I have only heard the MP12 at standstill and it is very base slightly american V8 - good to me.

I did watch and hear a prototype MP12 on the mile straight at Millbrook and it certainly caught my attention.

Ferrari vive la difference.

McLaren do it your way and get those test drives organised tout sweet.

Nothing wrong with doing it your way. If they started with something that looked closer to the GT3 and had that mechanical, race car sound of a McLaren F1, it would have been a completely different story in the press. Both are part of McLaren DNA. Just step it up a notch! We're not going to the Mac dealership because we want an everyday comfy family hauler.

An everyday comfy family hauler? I wouldn't even describe a Porsche 911 Turbo that way, and it has 4 seats!

I don't want a shrieking exhaust. I want it to sound good (and by the way there is nothing wrong with an undertone of American V8, remember Bruce McLaren's CAN AM monsters were Chevy powered!). I will drive the car every day so I need to able to make it down my street without waking all of my neighbours. If they make it louder, I hope it is in Sport or Track mode only.

Regarding styling, you want more "flair" but there are many of us who like the 12C because it is not styled that way (i.e. it's less "look at me" styling is a usability advantage). So you think there would be a net gain of customers if they re-styled it. I think there would be a net loss of customers.

Similarly, the interiors of the latest Ferraris are too garish for me. I would like to see more colour and fabric options for the 12C, but the concept of simplicity in the cockpit is long overdue.

If there is a "Scud" version of the 12C, I would accept more aggressive styling and sound there, because that would be likely less of an everyday car. But the full-featured luxury 12C must remain a viable everyday proposition. The 458 and Gallardo, in various ways, for me, are not.

So we are in agreement buddy! The hardcore race car is what I want. McLaren is about racing and winning. Therefore, it needs to look and sound the part. I prefer to use a 997TT for anonymity. The McLaren, for me, must be a special car.

Oh! My apologies. Since you posted in this thread, I thought you meant further updates for this production 12C.

Might I suggest a new thread titled "12C GT Wish List"? It would definitely have more visibility if Woking is indeed listening. Cheers.
