Very close already so I am sure hitting 1000 bhp could be done without too much modification. Issue will be how does it effect the drive-ability of the car.
In the P1 thread, somebody pointed out that the "R" just stands for "rebuild". So XP2R means, "experimental prototype 2 rebuild". It is unlikely that this car has anything unique to it that the other cars don't have.
Some bloggers got this one wrong when the pictures first surfaced and then all the others parroted the same story once again without doing any fact checking or whatever else a journalist should do before calling something news.
Seriously - any time the headline or first sentence of an article ends in a question mark, the answer is probably 'No!'.

Was planned as the standard engine platform. There have been some who have talked about McLaren aiming for the La Ferrari, bhp when it reaches the showrooms! Porsche did raise from initially 795 hp to now 875 hp!
