Taking it to drag strip for the first time, any tips?

Taking my 12C to the drag race for the first time.

What set up should I do on the car?

I've read that I should put car in track mode for power, but normal for suspension and set tires at 24psi, is that all right?

What else?

All four tires or just the back ones?

Bumping this. I need to know also. Is it correct to lower the tire pressure for the strip? All four tires or just the rear tires?

Just the rear tires. Honestly, to give yourself a fighting chance - use a R888 or drag radial. A "normal" street tire will just frustrate you.

Yeh, but this is just a one off for fun. P Zeros it is.

Aero on or off?

If you’re on P Zeros, do not use launch control. The Pirelli’s have horrible traction and your times will be slower because of the massive wheel spin.

Thanks. I thought I would try a pass with and without launch control but I can see it slowing me down. Any other advice?

I am on a brand new 352s Toyo R888r, so I hope with good launch control I can get some good times. Should I put Toyos to 24psi in the back as well?

Are you going to Wednesday night drags at Sears point? I have been meaning to get to the drag strip again but not in my 12c.

R888Rs aren’t great for drag racing. Good overall grip, but just not made for launches. I dropped pressure on my to under 20 and got nothing but spinning.

That's totally false, you just need to know what you are doing with them. I've gotten 1.5s consistent out of r888r's and twice I got a 1.49, so yes they are great for drag racing you just gotta keep them at 30 psi and make sure they are over 140 degrees temp wise.

So I did three passes. First time ever. 92 degrees at the track and street tires (P Zeros). Best pass was an 11.2 @ 129 MPH. I found at least in my case, that launch control definitely gave me a better time, by 3 tenths.

I think I could have gotten into the 10s with a few more passes because I figured out I needed to dry my tires, but the lines were getting crazy long.

It was fun. :-)

That’s nuts bro. I guess you figured out those tires for everyone else because I couldn’t! I dropped pressure instead of raising it. 🏻

Is all about the temps and the pressure, 20 PSI like you had them is way too low.

No, there is an exotic car only time for the Sacramento drag strip tomorrow from 9-2pm. Check on Facebook with Event for NorCal Supercar Club ∑ Hosted by Brian Gin.
