Another 12C quirk.

Here's a new one. Was traveling for 2 weeks and came back on a lovely day and decided to have a drive. I hit the unlock button on the fob, and the heater fan started blowing full power. Nothing I could do would stop the fan. the HVAC controls would do nothing, on either door. Started and stopped the engine two times. It kept running.

Finally I stopped the engine and got out of the car, took the keys, and waited. Still running. Then I used the fob to lock the car, and the fan shut off.

Never a dull moment with 12C electronics. :-)

Yep, had that happen once to me, and that is exactly the same way I got mine to turn off.

Happened to me as well. McLaren Philly said it's a common quirk w/ the 12C HVAC control unit. He said go for about a 15-20 minute drive after a shut off/car lock cycle and it should reset; which it did.

Well I'm kind of glad I'm not the only one.

I wonder if you didn't go through the process to make it shut off if it would keep going and run down the battery..

Mclaren has control panel in doors... open and close this doors gets vibrations and its make pcb (solder joints) in panel to brake.
Sometimes it may make diffrence if it is hot vs cold outside.

Panel work with a control unit.
And I think even this unit is inside door(?)

If car has softclose from start then maybe we can see that this cars dont have same problem as cars w/o softclose(?)

Control panel must have a mcu with 50-130 legs... this is always a problem, even on normal cars!

Actually I have experienced this as well. Occasionally simply pressing the Start button without starting the engine solved the problem. Otherwise, I needed to actually turn on the engine fully and the wait maybe 5sec before shutting it off again. Always worked for me.

Also, I noticed that this only seems to happen when I go for short local drives. If it is a somewhat longer distance say >5-7miles I never seem to have this issue.

Enjoy life but be reasonable, you never know but you might actually live another day to pay for it!

I haven't had that happen, but today I hit the right turn signal and the left came on for about 3 seconds then it went to the right. I'd call that a massive quirk.
