What thickness did you use to make those grill pieces, by the way? I’m fabricating some pieces for my project but hadn’t decided on a thickness yet.

Thanks!

About a quarter inch stainless steel. Too thin will make it look flimsy with a plate like this you also have to make a inside support bracket that the gate screws to and then that bracket connects to the car.

Wow, 1/4"?? That's pretty thick. Are you sure?? The pics you posted looked like maybe 1/16" (2mm) to me.. 1/4" is over 6mm thick! A quarter coin is 1.6mm thick, so you're saying that plate is 4 quarters thick?? I thought about using 1/4" plate aluminum (which I have a bunch of), but it seemed a little overkill.

Thanks!

Z.

How hot is that coating good for? I just did tips on my car (welded them up myself similar to yours) and I found that the outer surface of the tips is consistently 250 degrees when running. My cover plates are well over 200 degrees, and the INSIDE of the tips - mine are dual walled yours are single walled - is 300-400 degrees. Just 12"-18" back from the tips, the exhaust is 500-650 degrees depending on how hard I run the car.

I have one of Rooney's exhaust blankets and wrapped the tips in heat shield behind the bumper.

Suffice to say the exhaust gets stupid hot on these cars

You must ceramic coat and not powder coat. Ceramic coating can withstand over 2000 degree and people ceramic coat headers on race cars. As for the rest of the exhaust we will be heat wrapping from the tips back to the turbos
