570S vs 458 vs AMG GT R

Has anyone here driven all 3 of these cars? What are your thoughts? I'm going to drive them all at Exotics Racing in a couple of months to confirm which one I want to buy. I did the same before purchasing my current R8 V10, and it was well worth it. It's hard to appreciate how differently cars feel to drive without driving them on a track. On paper, I definitely prefer the 570S out of these 3. I didn't expect to like the R8 as well as I did, so who knows?

All 3 cars have similar performance and can currently be purchased for around the same price range. I expect the 570S and 458 to have a similar feel while the AMG GT R will be more like a premium Viper.

The AMG GT R wasn't even on my radar until I saw the lap times posted at Exotics Racing. If you throw out the fastest times as outliers, it is 2 seconds a lap quicker than the 570S or 458. It's only 1 second a lap slower than the GT3 RS which should be the perfect car for their track. I think Exotics Racing uses the same tires and brakes on all of their cars (cost savings), so the times should be legit. Very impressive performance by Mercedes. If it follows the typical Mercedes depreciation curve, it could be an absolute steal in a couple years.

I am in the same boat, just sold my V10 R8 and want to get a 570s or an Nsx..... I have inquired about 6 570s so far and each one had issues after reading over the service reports. So I understand your concern there, they are amazing looking and are monsters performance wise, just wish they could get the reliability issues taken care of.

Good luck with your search and have fun driving those 3!!

I had a cls55amg when it first came out, then a first gen R8. Now 570s. The AMG and R8 had all sorts of probs. Still loved both cars. The 570 has been absolutely reliable since I've owned. Only 6 months though. Seems pretty rock solid. Hopefully one good thing about a Nissan engine is the reliability lol.

Forget the whole depreciation thing. Happens to all cars, especially bloody supercars. Buying secondhand you are avoiding a fair bit already.

That's not terrible. I thought I heard the MP4-12C was more like $8000, which is part of the reason that used ones are down to the low 100's.

The R8 is quite cheap to maintain in general. I did have to pay $700 for a new battery. 3 hours labor to remove the frunk. That's only once ever 6 years though.

8000?? that's a bunch of bull. Service is roughly 2000 a year, if you want to buy warranty that's 5000, so 7k for service and warranty

the 570 will be close, maybe 500 less a year, the 2016 are coming off of warranty also. That 5k will be similar.

I was just going by what this guy said. He was including repairs that the warranty didn't cover.

I don't expect to, but AMG has somehow managed to make a loaded luxury coupe that is faster around a track. Have to at least give it a try for a few hundred bucks.

I have a 570s spider, and had the coupe before that. I'd not even consider an AMG GT-R... A good friend of mine has an AMG GT-R, and had the GT before that, and he'd never think about getting a 570 in any form... I think it all depends on what you want. Doing what you're doing and driving all the contenders back-to-back is the best thing to do. One of them will tick more boxes than the others. Please do post your findings, particularly if you like the 570 way better than the GT-R... I'm getting tired of listening to my buddy talk about F1.

a little misleading if your considering both cars out of warranty... but again, test drive them all and get whatever you would like. There are no wrong choices, but compared to the AMG GTR the mclarens will likely cost more for service/insurance/repairs.

Another plus for my R8 V10 is dirt cheap insurance. Less than most people pay for a regular car. I expect the 570S to blow it away though. We'll see!

I bought my 570 with ~1000 miles, 8 months old for $60K off MSRP. I've had it 7 months and it has been bullet proof. It has a pretty rare 'track pack' option and I was just going through cars.com and there were only 3 available and all were asking quite a bit more than I paid (which was nice).

Insurance: Full coverage..... $1600/yr.

I couldn't imagine wanting any of your other choices. The only 458 I would want is the Speciale.

Which insurance carrier? What's the deductible you have?
