Interesting...

However, Flewitt would not rule out non-hybrid powertrains in some limited-edition models in its Ultimate Series, which includes the forthcoming Senna track car and the BP23.

The latter will use a twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8 engine augmented by an electric motor and battery pack. However, the hybrid powertrains due to be used in the Sports Series and Super Series models are likely to have a different set-up that will include a downsized turbocharged V6.

The new generation of cars will also mark the introduction of autonomous driving features to McLaren models. However, Flewitt said the firm will not adopt every possible aspect of self-driving technology currently on the market.

“We will be selective. Autonomy in its own right isn’t that appealing to our customers, but we need to have capabilities designed in for safety, legislation and emissions,” he said.

so what does this mean? Article makes it sound like the end of internal combustion only platforms in favor of Hybrid electric starting with a 570 replacement in 2019? If I wanted a Honda NSX I would have already bought one! Also not sure where the market is for a self driving sports car?? So then is McLaren also going the way of sports sedans and SUVs?

Great. So, excitedly embrace McLaren's autonomous V6 turbo-hybrid future?

No.

I just threw up a little bit in my mouth...

Well a carbon tub, a turbo V6 hybrid providing the torque fill would expand the F1 connection. Perhaps McLaren can include MGU-K and MGU-H....?

On autonomous driving, seems safety is the focus.

If McLaren, Ferrari, and Porsche can do great hybrid hypercars, why not great sports cars? I anticipate these will be pretty interesting.

I wonder if autonomous cars will take over control if a magazine tester isn't lapping them fast enough.
