P14 Wishlist

We all know it's coming within the next couple of years. We all know that it's in the testing phase. We all know that McLaren listen to the opinions voiced on this forum so therefore I think it would be good to create a thread for the things that we would like to see in the P14 prior to it being finalised and signed off.

As far as exterior designs are concerned I'm sure McLaren already know what they're doing with that but suggestions for the interior etc. I'm sure would be welcomed. Thoughts?

F1 inspired real time data please.

I love simple things like tyre pressure and temperature, what else can I have?

Also include a passenger display like in a FF. The passenger can scroll through various data screens and be part of the experience.

We're all geeks at heart.

I certainly take some issue with the exterior. Less swooshes, more originality. Interior, more storage. Thinner center console, but floating like in current super series, not split like in sports series. Integrate home remote. Integrate cellular tech for over the air upgrades. IRIS 3 with modern architecture, or better yet, let us set in an iPad mini or android tablet as part of the console and move all the controls into an app.

Add rear view automatic dim. Garage door thingy. Full LCD dash. HUD. PREV NEXT SELECT and UP DOWN rockers on the back side of the steering wheel for infotainment control.

PLEASE make 'normal' suspension at least as cush as on the 12C. It's a road car, it needs to be comfortable on real roads.

Ad a 3rd knob for traction control with weather, normal, sport, track, OFF settings so it works independent of suspension and power settings.

Lighten and lower the position of the electric seats and add cooling in addition to heat.

Make room for integrated radar detectors and smartphone placement.

That's off the top of my head.

Ahhh dude. You just gave me a great idea.

Ok, so on the passenger side they have a screen showing the road topography and some telemetry, like speed, acceleration, etc. And a 'like' 'no like' buttons. Tied in with a built in telemetry pack showing the passenger's face and road. Instant share button uploading or live streaming the experience.

You guys are going to make the McLaren guys start to twitch with these suggestions... Think of the weight! If this were a religion, you'd both be sinners.

Fuel is fuel IMO. Range is a legitimate performance purpose, unlike remote control doors, spinner rims, etc.

There have been huge tanks in motorsport for years. Hell, F1 these days carry 100kg of fuel on board.

For track days it's vital. Many tracks don't offer on-site fuel, so you have to leave the track between sessions. Even on a daily commute a larger tank is helpful.

If McLaren wanted to, they could do like Porsche and offer the full-size tank as an option, so that as standard it has a smaller tank w/ less weight, better magazine times, etc.

What's the current fuel tank size, 72 litres? That's ~19 U.S. gallons. And gasoline weights 6.3 lbs/gallon. 100 litres is ~26 U.S. gallons, so additional ~44 lbs apart from the weight for a larger fuel cell. Which can be shaved-off with a few $10k's of MSO dieting!

I don't think any of my vehicles have had a larger fuel-tank! But, a case for a larger fuel-cell is compelling for those who actually need it (ie. track, Cannonballers, road-warriors)...

Nah... Maybe a little geometry change on the lifter that is already there, and a modification to the door latch assembly. Not much weight different than the addition of the soft close latches. I can't imagine Mac will lose the door opening design for P14.

Less weight
Less complicated heavy electronics that add nothing to the driving exerience and better integration of driver aids/electronic chassis systems to feel more seamless
Stock brake pads that last longer than 2 trackdays for iron rotors and/or ceramic pads that last reasonably well without costing planet earth to replace
More cooling to ensure the car can run all day long at speed on track (especially since now brake pads have been addressed per above)
Build to order only

Did I mention less weight.....?
