Exclamation Rumor: 720s hybrid version

https://www.motor1.com/news/349467/m...ar-spy-photos/

Some internet rumor on these spyshots say there is a 720s hybrid coming ... I would call this rumor BS ... don't think there will be a 720s hybrid version with P1 tech anytime soon (not within the next 3 years) ... its in my opinion much more likely Mclaren is either testing the powertrain of the 570s replacement or the Speedtail here in a 720s mule ... but no way they gonna make a 720s hybrid now ? what do you think ?

It's just a mule with Speedtail hybrid engine.

There won't be a hybrid 720S model. It will be saved for the replacement.

What I was told by a McLaren exec at an event yesterday, was that the 570 replacement, due next year, will be a 6 cylinder turbo hybrid.

Interesting, not sure why they would go to a hybrid on the 570 replacement but move away from it on the P1 replacement

I think there might be a P1 replacement in the works, maybe the next Ultimate series car, which will have hybrid drive - assume a M840T variant + next generation electric motor and battery. I don't believe McLaren considered the Senna (heavily track focused) or Speedtail (center steer HyperGT) as P1 replacements, rather each filled a new niche.

We might have already seen a preview of the 570 replacement in the new GT - that platform should offer plenty of room for a new V6 w/ hybrid electric powertrain.

The Senna and Speedtail are not considered P1 replacements/successors

I was also told that the 570 replacement would have an "aggressive" and "radical" appearance. Those words suggest to me something aimed at Lambo, but we'll see.

P1 v2 (rumor is for 2024-2025 release) will probably be hybrid - neither Senna nor Speedtail are considered P1 successors but other products in the Ultimate Series segment to what I read before ...

Umm is the GT a really new platform ... ? From my view its more a recycling of some 720s tech (not that this is a bad thing) with a bigger trunk and less complexity and some 570s bits ... I think the 570s replacement will be more radical and have lots of new elements also under the skin. I guess the GT is just needed as new product line as maybe a more sporty and aggressive Sport Series wont allow a GT version anymore without big design changes ... v6 hybrid was btw all I heard as a possible powertrain for that car since already some time ...

a hybrid replacement of the 720 is why i am likely going to enjoy my car, skip LT version and get the replacement 720! A hybrid version of the 720 is going to be insane.

only item is my dealer said the replacement 720s is about 4 years away... can they actually make that massive leap in 4 years??? i hope but not sure.

Current stable:
2018 720s
2018 Range Rover
2018 Porsche Panamera 4S
Others

Past cars
'12 MP4-12C Stealth Package, 570s - gone but will be missed
Endless Porsche 911s, Ferraris etc....

Let me clear up some misinformation here. The GT is based on the 570S platform, uses the monocell 2, with the 720S engine and other suspension components. The GT will likely be the only vehicle to continue to use this platform. The 570S replacement will not be based on the current platform and will be a hybrid v6 for sure. The 720S replacement will likely be a V8 hybrid.

V6 hybrid again more likely, but obviously more powerful than the sports series version.
