Considering 2015 650s I have questions ?

looking at a CPO 2015 650s.

Are they reliable ?
What can I expect to pay each year for maintenance ?
Why did you choose 650s over a new 570s?
Which do you expect to depreciate more, a used 2015 650s or a used 2016 570s ?

I would like to trade up to a used 720s in 2-3 years so looking for the best bang for the buck, with the least operating costs (less maintenance, warranty, consumables during the next 2-3 years).

One of the biggest advantages for me going 650s is that it would be a spider instead of a coupe (2016 570s).

I look forward to your feedback

I just bought a 2016 650S spider. One more year with warranty. I bought the 650S because I wanted the spider. The 570 Gt is what I looked at first but I like the wing on the 650S, the exhaust position and I had heard the 570 GT was really hot in warm climates due to the glass top. The non GT version looks nice also but I really wanted the spider version. The maintenance is not bad but the weak part is the coolant clamps. Have those inspected before you buy and if all else seems good, no worries. The services average about $2500 a year and are somewhat negotiable if you get a good dealer to work with you. Call around and price the work to be done as well as the price. I love my 650S and had the same questions you are asking. I have no worries about these cars. Depreciation might be an issue but it seems that the Mclaren is finally getting the attention it deserves. I think now is a good time to buy. If the import tariffs really happen, any high end import already in the states might actually go up in value. At
least my wife bought that story. lol Good luck, i think you will love it. BTW, I live in the Kansas City area and there have been 6-7 used Mclarens sold into this area in the last month, mine being one of them.

I've owned both.

Short answer...650 without a question.

Long....
I had a 2016 and had no problems with it. Definitely one of my most missed cars. There have been a few niggles with IRIS but nothing that couldn't be cleared with a shut down and restart. Most problems tend to arise if you don't keep the car on a battery charger and the battery starts to get low. IRIS doesn't like that. If you keep the battery charged you'll likely be in good shape. By the way the 570 will have the same issues.

Maintenance will run about $1500-2000 per year.

Choice between 650 and 570 will be clear when you drive both. Hand's down you'll know how much car you really have with the 650. Most notably will be the suspension followed by throttle response and steering. The fact that your looking at the spider will be advantageous (two cars in one) plus you get the fun window in the 650s to let the sound in when it's a little too chilly for full top down.

Over time the 570 will likely depreciate more than the 650.

Went with 650s too. The 570 was a little easier entry and exit but the 650 feels better with the suspension, spider, aero, room inside about the same. 570 looks more updated with new rear.

My 650 showed up last week. I have it in for pure turbo upgrade, so maintenance isn’t something I think about. Drove it about 200 miles to just see if any weird bugs. Warranty only matters to me for electronics and suspension.

Only issue so far was a parking sensor bracket that broke and the sensor is recessed into the bumper but easy fix.

Really can’t go wrong either way. Whichever speaks to you.

sorry to OP for threadjack, but just curious about this.

the 650's throttle response has never been great (of course i'm comparing to other cars like say, a 488 or AMG GTS, both of which are known for great response despite being turbo'd). but i was under the impression that because the 570 is newer, it had better throttle response than the 650.

is it really noticeable?

I made the same choice last year: 650 spider (Can Am), 570 spider or F488 spider. I chose the 650 (can Am) mainly because of the suspension, steering feel and sound (MSO exhaust). The 570 felt less sorted, less planted and not so responsive.

But I think you need to drive them both to decide yourself.

650S hands down is the best Super Series choice i have 19K on mine no issues 3.5 years old. You can continue to add extended warranty to all McLaren's on a yearly basis. the suspension and active aero are worth the price of entry...

jaguar XFR , Panoz Esperante JRD , McLaren 650S, RR TD6, BMW 330E Hybrid, 720S Spider Incoming

I have used mine as a daily driver for the last 3 years. Never had an issue with the 650S Spider. Best daily driver I have had to date. Article on it: http://karenable.com/2018/06/1000-da...n-650s-spider/

Drive a 650S and a 570S back to back and the choice should be easy. 650S is in a different performance league.

Maintenance runs about $2k a year.

650s hands down. 5x as rare as 570 and it’s just a better car. 570 will be cheaper to run

Hey Mike! What color is yours? I am also in KC and have a gray one - it is crazy how many Mc's we have gotten in the area in the past couple of months, in our group alone. I have only had mine for 2 weeks but have been thoroughly impressed thus far. I almost pulled the trigger on a 720s, but my depreciation fears prevented me from doing that. Instead, I bought the 650s spider and an ACR-Extreme for the same price...will probably move to a 720s when they depreciate some.
Where in the KC area are you?

Tailwag,

I am the Ford Dealer in Excelsior Springs Mo. My car is a black 2016 with 1836 miles on it. I have hauling it out to Denver on Oct 1st for the second year service. They claim I got a deal at $2150. Lol I am ready to get it all checked out and then drive it.

I agree with everyone here - 650s just feels like it's in another league when compared to the 570s. A very addictive car to drive. I Love mine - 2015 Volcano Yellow 650s
