600LT Problem

Curious to see if anyone has had any similar problem with their tracked car. Had my brand new 600LT on the track twice. The windshield ending up have a decent crack in it. But not from impact. A stress crack if you will. Have heard other McLarens having similar issues. Anyone else?

Windshield on my 570S was replaced under warranty due to a stress fracture. It developed about a 6" crack at the top center of the windshield. Not sure what causes this issue, but mine was replaced at around 2k miles, and I now have 11k on the car with no recurrence.

Wonder if the 600LT has thinner (lighter weight) windshield?

My 720S stress cracked the windshield on track as well.

Even if so, it's still not a good reason for (stress?) a crack. My Alfa 4C has the thinner light weight glass and nobody on Alfa forums has reported such random cracks.

Yes of course whatever the reason is under normal usage conditions there should not be stress crack fails in the windshield.

Yes my 570S Spider is on itís third screen in a year, I believe they all run very thin glass to keep the weight down.

Weird... my 2018 spider was delivered last January, so exactly one year and 12,000 miles, no windscreen issues - including several track days.

I’d wager that these cars have tolerances, being mostly hand built. Depending on the tolerance of your specific car makes it more or less likely to apply more stress to the windscreen.

Climate could also be a factor - my spider sees swings from about 30F to about 110F in California, though spends most of its time between 50F and 90F. If you get regularly below 30 and then park in a warm garage, those swings could maybe be contributing too..

However, seeing the issues some 720’s have with their gorilla glass, and other McLarens with their windscreens, I’d say it’s more of a build tolerance issue.

Thanks!

Z.

Hi All,
I just picked up a 600LT and am doing a track event in a few weeks. I just had Clearplex installed on the windshield, but should I still worry about windshield cracks?

Clearplex will protect from impact cracks but not from stress cracks.

I have it on mine as well good product to protect on many miles

Yes I know it will protect from impacts, but wasn't sure if it would help with stress cracks. Thanks for the info!
