Does anyone know whether "storm" is metallic and/or has any interesting flake color or is it more of a "flat" gray?
Does anyone have other recommendations for “interesting” grays if storm is too plain?

The best thing to do, and watch out, it can become a huge time-suck, is look at the McLaren San Francisco Flickr page. They do a great job of capturing the various colors in both direct sunlight and in the shade.

Also, for a color like Storm Grey, your dealer should have a sample on hand. Go there on a sunny day and take it outside. I think it's a great color.

Flat. Gorgeous color. I think car looks great. Was one of my top colors. Did not go with it for two reasons. One, I bought from stock and dealer only had storm grey 570gt and I wanted s. Second, I already own 3 grey cars and did not want a fourth. That said, it is flat and car really looks great. Shows lines but not at all in your face. Sinister.

Wow, it does look much more complex than I anticipated which is a good thing. I want a color that does not contrast with the palladium giving the car a more coherence appearance. I also want an elegant look with a color that shows the lines better than black (and its various variants which take certain lighting conditions to pop). I am also considering a luxury interior such as areia (luxury design 5) opposed to one of the alcantara sport interiors. To finish the elegant look, probably stay with silver forged wheels.
Opinions??

I really like storm grey/gray. I have ordered a few versions and it sells whether it has yellow, red, or orange accents.

I have also custom ordered a few cars in various other (shades of) gray.

the metallic grays tend to have various colors in them and I categorize them this way:

silver/black hue- porsche volcano gray, seal gray, sarthe grey, zenith black, onyx black
green hue- Storm Gray,
bronze/brown hue- Porsche Agate Gray, Blade Silver, fire black
blue hue- flintgrau (PTS), Saros (new 720 color),

gray non-metallics, I refer to as

Saturated: Porsche Graphite Gray, Ceramic Grey

De-Saturated: Chicane Grey

then, a further delineator:

texture:

creamy metallic: small, evenly spaced flakes- cerulean blue, silica white, volcano yellow, tarocco orange

grainy metallic: rough, course flakes of various sizes- supernova silver, burton blue, fire black, volcano orange, volcano red
