Georgia Cracking Down on Montana Tax Dogdg

Looks like the state of Georgia is trying to stop the Montana tax dodge.

The guy who runs Vinwiki posted a video that said the tax authorities also served search warrants on Motorcars of Atlanta--the local McLaren dealer. Awhile ago, they had 4 657LTs for sale. All were registered to the same Montana LLC. I wondered if that LLC was a flipper (which seems unlikely--did anyone think the 675LT was going to be worth flipping?) or if the dealership itself was buying those cars to manipulate allocations and shunting off that inventory to an LLC while those cars were for sale.

If only I could be a fly on the wall as the crack open the books of that dealership. I bet they will find some interesting things.

Tax avoidance vs tax evasion sounds like a very subjective distinction.

I live on the Missouri-Illinois border & there's a ton of folks who live in MO who register their cars in IL for very much the same reason. The Keystone Cop element of catching someone at this feels pretty Big Brother to me...

I have this mental image of police officers feeling up out-of-state cars sitting in a condo parking lot at midnight to see if they're warm and waiting for the residents to come out and go to work the next morning to bust them.

An adage from the misspent youth of my skydiving days: "Slow is smooth, and smooth is fast..."
