Gordon Murray, the original conceiver, designer and engineer of the McLaren F1, was given development prototype XP3 at the conclusion of the F1 project as stipulated in his contract with McLaren Cars Limited. He still owns the car to this day, and it is completely standard apart from the fitment of some LM suspension componentry.

McLaren themselves are known to retain F1 Le Mans XP1LM, the 1995 Le Mans-winning F1 GTR #01R, F1 development prototype XP5 that set the car's 240.1Mph top speed as a previous world record, and F1 GTR Longtail #020R which won first of the LMGT1 Class and second overall in the 1997 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Yoshio Tsuzuki owns F1 Le Mans LM2, along with a GT Longtail and standard Road Car.

Ralph Lauren owns F1 Le Mans LM3, along with 2 standard Road Cars.

The Sultan of Brunei currently owns 8 F1s, the most in the world, including the other 3 F1 LMs (LM1, LM4 and LM5), and GTR #09R which is effectively a replica of the Le Mans-winning #01R which McLaren will never sell. As with most of his other cars, as far as common knowledge goes they are never driven and merely sit there collecting dust. #014 is the only F1 that has escaped the Brunei collection, and is now in America having been painted White, and upgraded with the GTR High-Downforce Kit and LM-style interior.

Don Wallace owns #073, painted Dark Tangerine Metallic one of only 2 F1 Road Cars to have been upgraded with the LM-Spec Engine and Extra High Downforce Kit, amongst other enhancements.

The other Road Car to have received the LM-Spec Engine and Extra High Downforce Kit is #018, painted a darker shade of Metallic Grey and currently owned by a gentleman in New Zealand.

Tony Smith in the UK owns #020, a black F1 Road Car also upgraded with the GTR High-Downforce Kit.

F1 GTR #013R was recently been acquired by an English gentleman named Andy, and was just seen over the weekend at the PistonHeads Sunday Service at BMW HQ.

Nick Mason's car is F1 GTR #010R.

F1 GTR #06R which came third overall in the 1995 24 Hours of Le Mans is currently in the hands of David Clark, former Sales Director of McLaren Cars Limited and the current owner of UK exotic and classic car specialist Taylor & Crawley.

Other past and present F1 owners include Ray Bellm and Thomas Bscher, both of whom were actually responsible for pushing through the F1 GTR racing programme when it first began in 1995. In fact Mr. Bscher loved his F1 so much that he famously used to drive it to work every day, averaging 200-Mph speeds on the Autobahn on a very regular basis.

anyone who knows who owns vehicle #22 and #39? to my humble information there is 65 roadcars and NOT 64.. could this be true?? who owns the last vehicle ie 65 then?? some say it's chassi number #73 a special last treat for Ayrton Senna Foundation?? Could this be true??

Chassis numbers run from 001 through 075 with several gaps in the sequence for various reasons. There were a total of 69 standard F1 road cars built if you include the 5 prototypes. Without them it was definitely 64.

#022 is currently owned by Miles Collier in Naples, Florida. Most of his cars are kept in the Collier Auto Museum which is no longer open to the public but is available for the occasional private tour or a large private group meeting/event.

#039 is the dark brown F1 last spotted in Culiacan area of Mexico. I believe the most recent pics had been taken in 2004. The owner was reported to be a 'narco' or drug dealer who went by the nickname of "robachivas". I was told his real name was supposed to be Ricardo Beltran. He was apparently killed many years ago and the car has not been seen at all since then.

#073's original owner was a man from Venezuela. It was originally painted dark green from the Mercedes color palette, then had the High Downforce Kit fitted, then was later resprayed in metallic orange and had an F1 LM-spec engine fitted all while with the same owner. In late 2003 the car came up for auction at Christie's in London and was sold to its current US owner. There was no mention of any connection to Ayrton Senna or his Foundation in the auction description which you would think would be important info to publish when selling the car.

There are more than three still in Brunei - I am not sure they are "rotting". There have been conflicting reports on the car's current conditions. I tend to think they are neglected, but perhaps not as detrimental as the term 'rotting' would imply.

As of late 2009 Brunei still had their three F1 LMs - LM1, LM4 and LM5. There were two road cars present - #002 and #008. The F1 GT - 54F1GT - was still there, as was their copy of the Le Mans winning F1 GTR based on GTR #09R. The other two F1s that most definitely had a Brunei connection were #005 and #014. The former is MIA and may have been the chassis that was crashed by a mechanic in Brunei and written off in the process. The latter is here in the USA now after surfacing at a UK specialty dealer in 2002 and being purchased by an American. Finally, chassis #004 may or may not have had some connection to Brunei but is also not on the radar screens currently. It's another likely candidate for the wrecked car perhaps. The disposition of #004 and #005 is one of the few remaining F1 mysteries that has not yet been sorted out.

I mentioned all that I know about the history of that car, and none of it relates to Senna or his foundation. Could there be a connection I am not aware of? Certainly...

However, if there was a link to Senna at all with #073 I am fairly certain it is something that Christie's would have included in their very complete catalog description of the car when it was offered in 2003.

Greetings from NY,

I know this is odd for a first post, but I was looking for some more information on the white McLaren F1 that is supposedly in the US somewhere. My friend believes that he saw one a week ago. Since he was unable to get a picture, I was skeptical, until I did some digging and found this thread which mentions it and a youtube video that shows it with NY plates. Anybody have any more information on it? Where it is located in NY (assuming it is still here)?

Yes, chassis #014 is still in New York unless there has been a recent change. The car sees more use than many do so it wouldn't surprise me at all if it was spotted on the road. The owner and his son regularly exercise all the cars in their collection on road and on track.
