Formula One 2016

I figured we could use a thread for just general Formula1 posts that do not have to be McLaren specific.

So to start off, Barcelona Testing!!!

Sounds like Ferrari and MB doing well. McLaren is running which is a positive sign lol.

From the Sky feed:

A new personal best lap from Jenson Button moves the McLaren driver to fifth in the times. 1:26.860 his best time from 70 laps.

They also made full race distance which is probably the best sign. I think competitive top 3-5 would be a huge win this season.

Sky Feed: For those asking about tyres, the unofficial word is that all of the lead runners were on mediums up to the fifth-placed Button in the timesheets who used softs.

I really hope that is just showing early testing speed and not the actual speed. With limited testing I don't think there is time to be sitting around though. If that's the best they did on Soft this season is going to suck.

Guess I'll catch up on the testing results tonight. We're in the 30 day window for Australian race and seems more want to take the trip then before. Interesting year with more races than ever. Interesting to see how Haas with all the Ferrari help makes out in the first half of the season. We'll see shortly how competitive Honda is. I always wish all the teams good luck. Funny how now Renault is a team and they lost their French driver.

Mercedes are in commanding position. Incredible aero detailing, and they haven't even brought the ducted nose yet. With no setup, they are doing long runs with mediums 1-1.5 seconds a lap quicker than Ferrari. Not a true gap, but we haven't nearly seem the true power unleashed yet. Hamilton had so much available that he could wheelspin at will at low speed.

Honda has gotten a lot more reliable, but that chassis does not have the speed. Hate to say it

Excited to have F1 back on the calendar soon.

I'd love to see McLaren at the front as much as anyone but I won't get my hopes up.

Tall mirror stalks on the McLaren. TR looks nice. Haas paint scheme is hideous.

That suggests their 2016 offering ain't upto snuff. I think I read on Autosport that the McLaren was 10mph down in the speed traps even when running the faster soft tyre. Boullier was also extra salty when they interviewed him yesterday.

This is seriously disappointing. Up the grid a few spaces they'll move up no doubt but this is not a championship package by all accounts.

Current: BMW X6, Smart ForTwo Brabus
Previous: Porsche Boxster S, Alpina XD3, Audi RS4 Avant, Audi R8 V10, Audi RS6 Avant

think jenson's comments were the most pertinent ... 'outright pace, who knows'

and whilst the tyres will make no difference in pace in a straight line, I would also suspect they aren't yet running the engine at full power... but will no doubt make sure they run reliably to begin with and hopefully move to full power..

but yes, you could infer that he has been moved as the first results indicate performance again will not be good enough... we'll see over the coming days I guess..

I was going to say 'Slower than Haas on the softs too... running 9th', but now Alonso's 10th, ahead of Toro Rosso running mediums.
