I bumped into a Mclaren development engineer who has been working full tilt on the Mega Mac for 3 years. He did the MercMac as well which surprised me as he looked like he had only just started shaving.....but it is a good life in Ron's World and he clearly enjoyed his work.
Anyway, so how many cylinders.....well a lot...more than 8......well it's difficult to say......oh come on.......but it will have 'ultimate performance'. Direct injection? Well all cars will have to go direct injection to meet emission and mpg targets......even the MP12? Definitely at some future point.
Is the suspension different, well it will be an everyday car......so will I be able to tow a Caravan? Well we had not dialled that into the development programme......will you ask Ron? Don't think so, I want to stay at Mclaren.
Will it look sensational in a Mclaren way? It is very Frank Stevenson and he has always done Iconic......Mini, Fiat 500 and other 'Old School' fastish cars so I think it will be seen as very special.
After going roundincircles I have to say the enthusiasm, dedication and professionalism of each Mclaren employee I meet is too good to be true. They really are a motivated bunch in Ron'sWorld
Now how can I convince my wife we need a fast towing car?
Well I asked a prominent individual within McLaren Automotive if I should attend this year's Goodwood Festival of Speed to see the F1 successor unveiled and was told it would be too soon. That event happens in late June, so...
The Sunday Times this weekend had an article on Mclaren and Antony Sheriff was quoted as saying all Worldwide dealers were shown the Mega Mac 14 days ago. My dealer said it was nothing like the Car Mag images. No surprises then.
I've heard the same Andy, that it's not the dealers but the owners of the dealerships. And senior staff of McLaren proper. Unfortunately, it was implied last week that we won't see official shots until 2013.
Autoweek stated this week of the arrival of the F70 by year end.......RUMORED to have 920hp with KERS supplied by a 7.3L V12 from the 599 to weigh in at a svelte 2500lbs (probably dry wt).....let the arms race begin

I just googled "ferrari f70" and then clicked images. A lot of what I found looked very Pagani-esque. They're all obviously artists impressions though - so best to reserve judgment until something official-ish comes out...
I spoke with a guy who has seen Mega Mac and he is sworn to secrecy or he has to answer to Ron.
He would only say it is 'very far reaching and different' with a substantial price point. Aw come on give me a clue...........it's very Frank Stephenson......nothing like Car Mags images.
So, we have to wait and see........get your letters of interest in then go rob a Bank or two!
That comment was made in CAR magazine by Frank, I believe. Still unfortunately, whatever the outcome, the car will be out of mu reach so I will have to make do with the 12c
At Pebble Beach last year, I asked Frank about it. He said, "It's like nothing you've ever se... ....like nothing you can even conceive."
I said, "I don't know, I can conceive of a lot!"
So I asked him to draw three character lines on a piece of paper, and then show/flash it to me for just an instant. ...and he said he couldn't. But he DID hesitate for juuuuust long enough to get my hopes up that I was going to get a bit of an inside scoop (as though he might actually be considering it - he did have paper and pen in hand, after all)! Alas...
He gets pretty excited talking about it - you could tell he was bursting at the seems to talk/tell more, but wouldn't. For some reason - I'm thinking it'll be mind-blowing!
I'm pretty impressed with their ability to keep the secrety, frankly!
I'm guessing this car will blow us away just the way the original F1 did...
Hope so with SOUND to match ;0) Can't be any worse than proposed F70. It probably can't be F1 size with all the safety regs now but I just pray it's NOT aventador BIG :-0
not too worried about wt cause that is their thing, more than likely around 2500lbs (dry)
Would like to see that be the KERB weight ;0)
Original quote went something like this 'it will be bigger than the 12C.........'
hope not TOO much bigger and please keep the weight down cause F70 target it 2500lbs!
