Does either of you, or does anyone, know of a bombproof way of getting the BP23 certified for road use in the States, or are you counting on a Show or Display approval?

That will give you plenty of time to decide which colors to paint it

Is this new letter 100% confirming your slot or saying you are on the short list? Have they asked for the deposit yet?

Confirms the acceptance of an application and inclusion on the customer list. It outlines the base purchase price and the deposit terms (some already have this covered) and build slots are guaranteed after the second deposit installment is made. It also makes it clear that BP23 will only be constructed to conform to European regulations which conveniently also covers a number of markets outside Europe, in addition. It goes on to mention McLaren will assist the efforts to import BP23 into other markets by way of third party specialists - this will certainly apply to any North American customers.

"I still say this is the best car ever built, ever, and probably will never be beaten."

Wrt US importation, all the letter says is that McLaren will, if requested, introduce the buyer to a logistics company that could assist in transporting the car to the buyer's chosen destination. The letter says that whether there would be "potential" for the car to be road registered in the chosen destination is a question on which the buyer should get "independent advice".

Ergo, as regards US road registration, still

In my mind the 3-seat GT configuration is making things ready for the single seat Super Ultra McLaren I am waiting for which will have it all and do it all. I know McLaren has listened to me and will make this auto available to me.

Flewitt's generic letter could not be applied literally to every region, and there will always be cancellations prior to the non-refundable "Production Slot Reservation Fee" that will be due sometime next year, but I think you will find that, in the UK, initial, refundable £300k deposits were due at the end of September 2016.
